4 Tips for Connecting With Your Inner Child

4 Tips for Connecting With Your Inner Child

Growing up, we all had dreams and aspirations of what we wanted to be in the future. People encouraged us to reach for the stars because we could achieve anything we dreamed up. But as we grow older, many of us become more practical. However, the free and imaginative side of ourselves is still there, and tapping into this side helps y’all enjoy life’s small details. Delve into my tips for connecting with your inner child.

Try Meditating

Meditation helps us tap into our psyche and better understand ourselves as we gain control over our thoughts. Find a quiet spot in your home, listen to soothing music, and take a few deep breaths.

Once you’ve cleared your mind of intrusive thoughtsthink about your favorite childhood memories. Where was your favorite vacation spot? What’s your happiest memory? As you reflect, strive to visualize the moment and pinpoint what makes it so special. You may realize that you need to spend more time with friends and family or revisit an old hobby.

Engage Your Senses

One of the best ways to bring back cherished childhood memories is to engage your senses. Make your favorite dinner from childhood, or think about what scents remind you of those days. There’s an incredible link between scents and nostalgic memories because of how our brain stores information.

For example, anytime I smell almond extract, I think of baking spritz cookies with my grandma—a time filled with joy and laughter. Think about which aromas remind you of beloved places, people, or events, and add the scents to your home with candles or essential oils.

Also, try listening to your favorite childhood songs. Music has a way of taking us back to specific memories or times in our lives. Pull out your CD or cassette tape player and get nostalgic with the songs y’all once called classics.

Get Creative

Another way to awaken your inner child is by letting your creative side take over. Spend some of your free time coloring, painting, or drawing. As y’all get crafty, remember that there’s no need for a plan, nor are there rules to follow. If you want to paint a blue dog, do it! Creativity is all about expressing your individuality.

Practice Self-Love

Self-love is always essential, and it’s something that we often forget as adults. Treat yourself the way you would treat a child. Don’t beat yourself up over mistakes or shortcomings. In times of doubt, give yourself the same love and attention you’d provide to your little one. We’re all human, and life is about learning how to constantly evolve.
