3 Tips for Making A Home Remodel Easier On Your Family from North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

While remodeling your home is never going to be an easy, stress-free task, all the problems and anxieties that come along with a home remodel become exponentially worse when you’re trying to face them with a house full of kids. And you know that if your routine is being disturbed, your kids will have a hard time adjusting to what a remodel could mean for them as well. Luckily, if you plan correctly and take the right steps with your remodel, you can make things a lot easier. To show you how here are three tips for making a home remodel easier on your family.

Pick The Right Time Of Year

Depending on what part of your home you’re remodeling and that age of your children, the perfect time of year for you to choose to remodel will vary. First of all, Family Handyman shares that if you’re wanting your home to be ready by a certain time or for a certain event, like the start of the school year or the winter holidays, you’ll want to be sure you start the renovations within enough time to get them done by then. Additionally, if you’d like to keep your kids out from underfoot as much as possible, you may want to do the renovations during the school year when they’re out of the house for most of the day. You could also try to plan smaller renovations around vacation times so everyone will be out of the house and not having to deal with the day-to-day struggles of living through a reno.

Try To Stay Organized

If you and your family are going to be living in your home throughout the remodel, it can be very hard to stick to your normal routines. Part of this is because you’ll have to move everything out of the areas that are being renovated and put them in the spaces you and your family will be living in. So to make this work as seamlessly as you can, Ann Robinson and Annie V. Schwemmer, contributors to Deseret News, recommend trying to keep things as organized as you can. If there are things you’ll be needing, keep those things near the tops of piles or boxes so you can easily get to them. And if there are things you won’t be needing, try keeping them out of the house altogether so they don’t take up your limited amount of space.

Create A Detailed Plan With Your Contractor

To ensure your renovation goes as close to your plan as possible, LifeStorage suggests that you make a detailed plan with your contractor for how the remodel will progress. This plan should include things like the start and end dates, what areas are going to be worked on, what areas are going to be left alone, and how you want the finishes to be done. With all this information laid out from the beginning, it will help things go smoother throughout the entire process.

If you’re planning to remodel your family home, consider using the tips mentioned above to help this renovation come off without a hitch and without too much stress to your family.
