3 Tips For Bringing a New Puppy Into Your Family

Bringing a new puppy into the family is something that a lot of parents want to do for their children.  Perhaps they made the decision to adopt the newest family member for a birthday or maybe just because they’ve been asking and finally gave in.

A family dog can be a great thing for everyone in the household.  Loving a dog together as a team can create a meaningful connection that you share together.  A dog can be something that brings the whole family together as a common bond.

It’s not all a walk in the park when you first bring your new puppy home, however.  There will be a lot of learning curves and having to be patient as your dog learns the rules of your household.  Here are some of the best tips to see you through in introducing your new pup to the family.

Start Training Immediately

It’s important to get your dog started on learning immediately.  If you wait too long to start training them to walk on a leash or not to jump on your houseguests, then these can develop into nasty habits which are harder to break later on.

Make an effort to start training the day that you bring them home to your home.  Make sure to get your hands on the best possible training material from a trusted source and stay diligent.  They may not learn overnight but if you keep at it consistently, then they will eventually learn and be a great animal without any problems.

Get a Crate

It’s important to get a crate for your new dog in order to be able to teach them the importance of holding their bladders.  Puppies will pee and poop all over the house when you first bring them home, so it’s important to eliminate this risk immediately.

Getting a crate for them means giving them a space to feel safe and in their own area which is special just for them.  Since space becomes their territory they won’t pee or poop inside of it.  Therefore, leaving them in their crate when you leave the house or go to bed will ensure that they won’t make a mess all over your house.

After a while, you can start leaving the door open to their crate once they are well trained and know how to hold their urges to go to the bathroom inside.

Set Boundaries

It’s important to let your puppy know who is the boss from the very beginning.  Making sure that your dog knows who is boss means that you are defining clear guidelines.  Once your dog recognizes you as the pack leader then they will be submissive and respectful in your presence.

Even though you may be tempted to let your dog do whatever they want because they’re so cute and fuzzy, it’s important to remember that rules are actually good for them.
