Helpful Tips for Traveling with Your Pet

Helpful Tips for Traveling with Your Pet from North Carolina Lifestyle blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

I consider my pet to be a part of the family, so I want to take him with me wherever I go, even when I’m traveling. If you’re like me and you can’t stand to leave your pet for even a minute, follow these helpful tips for traveling with your pet. I promise that things will be easier for you both.

Crate-Train Your Pet

Y’all, I know crate-training your pet sounds scary. Every time people hear the word “crate,” they think their pet is in trouble or has done something wrong. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Crate-training your pet makes traveling with them so much easier. If your pet is properly crate-trained, you should be able to tell them to go in their crate and be on your way. You won’t believe how much easier travel becomes if you can put your pet in a crate.

Buy Plenty of Toys

I don’t know about y’all, but I need to keep my pet entertained while I’m traveling with them. Otherwise, they’ll drive me crazy the entire trip. One way I keep my pet occupied while I’m traveling is by buying them plenty of toys beforehand. The more toys my pup has available to him, the better. Toys are also great ways to distract pets that get nervous during travel.

Tire them Out Beforehand

An awesome tip for traveling with your pet is to tire them out before you begin your journey. Play fetch with your dog or dangle a string in front of your kitten before a long trip. The more exercise your pet gets, the more exhausted they’ll be. Hopefully, they’ll sleep through the entire ordeal and wake up when you arrive at your destination.

Reassure Them

The most important thing to do when you’re traveling with your pet is to let them know everything’s going to be alright. It’s normal for your pet to get anxious during travel. Your job as their owner is to reassure them and let them know they’ll be safe. Bring lots of treats with you, and be sure to communicate with your pet throughout the entire trip.
