10 Tips for Green Parenting

10 Tips for Green Parenting from North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

Earth is our biggest and best resource. So, it’s important for us to protect it for our sake, and for the sake of future generations. So, here are 10 ways to start green parenting!

1. Cloth Diapers

Using plastic diapers can be one of the biggest sources of waste when you have a baby. Consider using cloth diapers. They’re not wasteful, and they’re more economical since you don’t throw them away every time you change them.

2. Organic Baby Lotion

Pick organic baby lotion when it comes to your child’s lotions. It’s better for the Earth because it doesn’t have any artificial fragrances, parabens, sulfates or other chemicals. It’s so much better for your baby’s brand new sensitive skin too!

3. Make Your Own Soaps

Some people love to make their own soaps for baby. This cuts down on plastic containers, and it can mean fewer chemicals being used on your baby’s skin. Just be careful what ingredients you use and consult your pediatrician first. You don’t want to use anything that would upset your baby’s sensitive skin.

4. Pick One Wash Day

When doing laundry, consider picking one day to do all of it. You’ll be able to do bigger loads at the same time. This will conserve water, soap, and your time.

5, Make Your Own Baby Food

When it comes to baby food, it might be best to make your own. Those little plastic containers that baby food comes in can end up in landfills and not break down for many, many years. To cut out this problem, you can make your own baby food with simple foods like bananas. Be sure to use a blender and blend everything super well before feeding it to your baby.

6. Have a Garden

While you’re at it, why not grow your own fruits and vegetables to make into baby food? You can start with simple plants in your backyard, or if you don’t have a large space, some vegetables will grow in containers, as well. It is great for the earth, and it can save you some money.

7. Upcycle Formula Containers

If you formula-feed your baby, consider upcycling the formula containers. They are great for storing little things and with some DIY love, no one will ever know where the original container came from!

8. Find Eco-Friendly Nightlights

Nightlights can be great, but to save power, simply don’t use them. They can use up valuable energy. If your baby needs light to help transition to sleep, consider using an eco-friendly nightlight using solar energy.

9. Second-Hand Items

When possible, get second-hand clothes and toys for your baby. Thrift stores and friends with older kids are great places to get these items. That way, these items will get a second use, and they won’t just end up in a landfill.

10. Teach Your Baby

Be sure as baby gets older to teach them to also be eco-friendly. Teach them about recycling and conservation. Of all the things you can do, teaching your child will have the biggest effect on our world’s future.
