1 Pair 10 Ways The Root Collective Gaby Flat
If you have been following me on Instagram, you know that I recently participated in a 1 pair 10 ways Instagram challenge hosted by The Root Collective for Fair Trade Month. So I just wanted to do a recap here on the blog so you can see how you can help workers get fair wages and to make sure they are treated right
Day 1
My youngest daughter, Gracie was the model for this picture. She chose to pair my Gaby Embroidered flats ( I bought these shoes when they were having a seconds sale even though there was nothing wrong with me) with a classic look- jeans and a sweater. I was drawn to these shoes because they remind me so much of my husband’s native country Mexico. The embroidery is to die for.
This day was all about educating what Fairtrade is all about? It means that a company is ensuring living wages, humane working conditions, and overall worker protection.
Day 2
Gracie once again modeled the flats. This time she paired with simple overalls and a T-shirt. Today’s focus was on how cheap fashion, isn’t really cheap. Why because it means that people who made them weren’t treated fairly. They aren’t being paid fairly for their work. Many times it is because they are so desperate for a job that will take any job that pays no matter the wages.
Day 3
I finally got into the modeling game but only my lower half. I chose to pair my Gaby Flats with a simple t-shirt dress. This time the focus was on breaking down what goes into the production of the $20 pair of jeans you may buy at the store.
Day 4
I had a little help with my picture today, Allie wanted to be in this one with me. She loves to get her picture taken. Isn’t she the cutest? I paired my flats with a jean skirt and a simple T-shirt. The focus today was about taking a journey of becoming more aware of how you make a difference in the world. It was more about empowering women to make a change. That is one of the reasons I chose to take this picture in front of the blog cabin, something I worked really hard for. Sure my husband put in the sweat equity, but I bought and paid for everything that went into making it what it became.Â
Day 5
Gracie took the modeling back over. She sported a classic teenage style. A black skater skirt and a graphic tee, I mean you can’t get any classic that than. The focus was on women supporting women. And since I am a mom of three beautiful and talented young women, I want to make sure that they are treated fairly in the workplace.
Day 6
The pairing for this day was super easy. Every girl needs an LBD ( Little Black Dress) And I love that this dress was comfortable. I chose the pumpkin because in my mind I wanted to recreate a Real Housewives opening moment.
The emphasis this day was finding your own personal style. It is about being true to who you are and being comfortable in your own skin. This is a journey that I have been on for a while, but it has just recently like the past year that I have really felt comfortable being who I am.
Day 7
Gracie took back over the modeling. She sported the shoes with a simple maxi skirt and t-shirt. This was a timeless outfit for North Carolina in the Fall. This day was all about being socially conscious and making a conscious decision to buy quality over price every day. Because it saves you in the long run.
Day 8
Today the focus was on our favorite clothing and finding out how they are made. I chose that day to sport my Christmas Gift from my oldest. A t-shirt representing her school- honestly this is my most favorite shirt ever. I am thinking she is going to have to give me another one this year ( If you are reading this Maddie, hint hint). I chose to wear this because I am proud of her for following her dream of obtaining a Ph.D. in Environmental Toxicology, even if it meant moving from the East Coast to the West Coast to obtain it.
Day 9
Gracie often sits in the Blog Cabin with me, she does a lot of editing of my pictures. And today was no exception. She paired the Gaby Flats with a pair of checkered pants she found at a local charity thrift store and her sister’s old Chipotle work shirt. I also mentioned in this post a resource of ethical brands. You can find it here.
Day 10
Today’s model was by far the cutest. But not only did it spread the word about fair trade and ethical fashion it also told you the story of how our little Allie came to us. I combined our love of animals with fair trade practices.
I had a lot of fun doing the 1 Pair 10 Ways challenge. I really enjoyed thinking about the outfits that work with the shoes, because as one person commented on my Instagram, that was a bold choice.
