When I Grow Up I Want To Be…..

How many times have we uttered that phrase when we were growing up a million plus right? As moms we hear this phrase as our children grow up and explore the world and all the career opportunities that it holds. If you ask my daughters they all have very distinct ideas of what they want to be when they grow up. Maddie, my oldest wants to work as a psychiatrist or work in communications some how, Mikaela is all about being an architect and Gracie wants to be a veterinArian. All three of my girls have wanted to be these things for as long as I can remember and I believe they will all be awesome at these careers. But have you ever thought you wanted to not to be something and then decide that maybe it wasn’t as bad as you thought??

Well in the new book, When I Grow Up I Want to Be …. A Teacher!!, Carlee feels that way. You see Carlee always wanted to be a teacher when she grew up, until her mom is hired as a teacher at her school! Some of her friends are even in her mom’s class. Carlee is very worried. What will her friends say? Will her mom do something to embarrass her? Carlee vows never to become a teacher like her mom, but as she journeys through the first day of school with her new teacher, Carlee makes some surprising discoveries.

I will say that I absolutely loved this book. I love how Carlee’s teacher inspired her to think about careers. In fact my favorite quote from the book says just that. ” Maybe that’s what teachers really did after all- get kids thinking about the neat things they can do when they grew up.” What an awesome quote, I think all teachers should be commended for all that they do.

I loved how this book walked the readers through the first day of school, adding little tidbits of history along the way. What a great combination of entertainment and learning!!!! I highly recommend this book for any classroom teacher as well as for any child.
