Touring Durham Distillery with NC Social
This year has been a year of discovery for me. One where I decided to create opportunities to learn and experience new things. I decided at the beginning of the year, I was going to be open to any experience that comes my way. That is why when I was given a chance to tour the Durham Distillery with some blogger friends. I didn’t hesitate.
Mind you, I am not a heavy drinker, the most I drink is a glass of wine every now and then. But I thought, this would be fun to try and, they have a new gin and tonic Rose that I have been dying to try.
I was excited, but I also was going to experience this tour with some of my favorite people, fellow bloggers, and my hubby.
The tour was super informative. I never knew what went into making gin. And never knew what the words “Navy Strength” meant on a bottle. Do you? Just in case you don’t, this is what it means. Basically, the doctors on the ship would try to treat scurvy with gin. But they soon realized that merchants were selling them gin that had been watered down. So they came up with a test, they stored the gin by their gunpowder, and if the gun powder smoldered after it was lit, then they would know they were given the water down version. So it became known as Navy Strength.
The Durham Distillery has a wide selection of products from Conniption Gin, Cucumber Vodka, Damn Fine Liqueurs and their cocktails in the can. I will say that I took part in all the tastings and even liked some of the products. Some were too strong for me, but others were just right.
In fact, my favorite was the Chocolate flavored Damn Fine Liqueurs. I might have gotten a bottle of it to bring home, along with the Conniption Rose Spritz. I actually took some the girls’ night out on the farm, and it was hit.
So if you are ever in Durham, check out Durham Distillery. It is located in Durham, North Carolina. The Tasting Room is open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Their hours are Thurs: 12 – 6 PM, Fridays: 3 – 9 PM and Saturdays from 1 – 7:30 PM. I promise you won’t regret it.
