The Best Ways for a Stay at Home Mom to Keep Fit from North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

Being a stay at home mom can be one of the best things but comes with its challenges. Whether you are in the office or at home, there are always many things to fit in the day and not enough hours to do them. You all know that keeping fit is essential but finding just ten minutes to work squeeze in a workout seems impossible. Although chasing the kids around all day can feel like a workout at times, their eating habits can wreak havoc on your weight. If you’re wondering how to balance it all here are some tips to help you get fit. While at the same time taking care of your little ones.

Involve Your Kids in the Exercise

Exercise is good for everyone so why not bring the kids on board? It’s not always easy, but if you don’t can make it fun, you can exercise together. Go out for bike rides as a family. If you haven’t got bikes, two feet work just as well if you need to exercise. Put on your walking shoes and get outside! You’d be surprised how many calories a game of tag at the park can burn! For the rainy days, create a mini mock strength circuit for the kids to do alongside yours. Young children can use socks as dumbbells or use filled water bottles for lightweights if they’re a little older.

Many of the chores you should be encouraging your kids to do can be excellent workouts. Raking up leaves or sweeping the yard are just a couple of examples.

Keep Your Workout Clothes on All Day

You don’t necessarily need to set aside chunks of your day for staying fit. If you’ve already got your workout shorts on, you can take advantage of ten minutes here and there throughout the day. It can also make you feel more like exercising and remind you that you’ve got a workout to do. Thankfully workout clothes are now stylish so you can run errands and still look out together. Then, when you can spare a few minutes to work out you’re ready today. Try one of these ideas when you just have 5 or 10 minutes, running up the stairs, walking more by parking further away, and doing exercises during the commercials.

Work with a Trainer

Obviously, this isn’t going to suit everyone’s budget but if you can, a trainer can be a great way to keep yourself on track. An in-home trainer will be able to work around your schedule, tailor your workouts and keep you motivated. To save money, why not partner with another stay-at-home mom and share the cost?

Set Realistic Goals

Try and set yourself a goal of exercising a certain number of times every week. It might take a while to get into the habit, but once you’ve done it you’ll benefit. Make yourself a chart to pin to the refrigerator or use one of the many fitness apps available for download. Reward yourself when you achieve your goals as this will go a long way towards encouraging you to keep to the plan.

Exercising is important for everyone, young, old and in between. It helps your mind, body and soul work efficiently and will reduce the chances of you becoming depressed. You will be less likely to suffer with certain illnesses and feel more alert and happier. If you haven’t started yet, then begin with small exercises and get the kids to join in. Any exercise is better than none, and don’t be put off when you have to keep stopping the exercise video to go and sort out the latest squabble or fix your kids their lunch.
