Stuck in Traffic?? Why Not Workout??

Do you know that the average commuter can spend more than 38 hours a year stuck in traffic? I don’t know about you but when I read that I thought wow that is a lot of wasted time. I am lucky enough to live in a small town that traffic jams are out of the norm for me but when I travel to the bigger cities for blogging opportunities I do find myself stuck in traffic now and then. I thought to myself there has to be something that I can do while stuck in traffic. Sure I can write or check emails from my phone but that is not really safe. So I did a little research and found that there are some exercises that I can do while stuck in traffic. I am always looking for ways to fit exercise into my life.

I found these four exercises that fit the bill. Check them out.

  • Tummy Tightener- This will equal to one sit up. This is what you do, pull your belly button in as if pressing it back against the car seat. Hold for five seconds and release. Do 3 sets of 10.
  • Pelvic Floor Toner- This is like a Kegel exercise. Keep your abs and butt relaxed, squeeze that muscle and hold for three-seconds. Try doing this 1o times.
  • Shoulder Stretch- While your car is in park, sit up straight ( no slouching) drop your shoulders up and down to lengthen your spine. Pretend like a string attached to your head pulling on your spine. Then bring your shoulders forward bringing your chin to your chest. Slowly roll up. This will also release some tension from your body. Speaking of tension if driving in traffic makes you very tense try the next exercise.
  • Tension Tamer- Inhale slowly as your visualize your breath coming up from your toes, up through your leg, past your stomach and into your lungs. Then slowly exhale, visualizing the breath traveling back down your body. Repeat until you feel the road rage leave your body.
