Reading List: Princess Sophia and the Frog
How many times have you heard the saying “Smiles are contagious.” Will in the cute little story book, Princess Sophia and the Frog by Suzy Liebermann, Princess Sophie learns that as well as other things. Here is a brief summary of the book.
Princess Sophia is a little princess who has everything a little princess could wish for: a big castle with many things inside. However, she is bored and wants to fly to the moon. One day a little frog comes by and helps her fly high up into the sky. They come to land on different planets, where Sophia learns about feelings. She also learns that she can choose what mood she surrounds herself with, as this will impact her own. After her return to the castle she realizes that all she needs to be happy is to be surrounded by good friends.
Let me say, first I loved this book. The illustrations were just adorable and I found myself wanting to kiss the cute little frog as well. I also love that it taught the colors. As a teacher I could use this in so many ways in my classroom. I would use it to teach colors, alliteration , rhyming words as well as character education. I love how the author portrays emotions as contagious as well. That if you hang around people who are sad or angry all the time then you will end up sad and angry. I also love that Princess Sophia learns the valuable lesson that we all need friends in our lives. But we also need to be careful who we let into our lives because they can affect all areas of our lives.
