My Thoughts on Strengths Coaching
Why what can I say about Strengths coaching? I honestly would have never imagined that something that when I started out to help a very dear person ( who happens to be part of my family) with her nearly formed company Lauren McGhee Coaching. Not only did I help her but in the end, I discovered the strengths of my own that have helped me in this blogging world. I can honestly say that I miss our little sessions because of each session I have walked away with such passion and fire that I have immediately sat down at my computer and pumped out a few blog posts.
A few months ago, I was so stressed going day to day trying to figure out what to write for the next day ( who am I kidding sometimes it was for that day.) I was taking my frustration out on everyone that I know and love, but since my sessions with Lauren, I discovered that my biggest strength was being strategic. Making a plan and sticking with it. Which shocked me but I thought that is so not me by any means.
Let me go through my experience with strength coaching with you and let you see how it unfolds. To start my first session I had to take a strength test to find out what traits were my strengths. I did know the outcome, and in fact, I even questioned it. If you asked Lauren, one of the first questions out of my mouth was how can I be strategic that is the last thing that I am.) But keep reading and find out I embraced this new trait that I never realized I had.
My top five strengths were Strategic, Positivity, Ideation, Restorative and Developer. I will go in depth on these strengths in future blog posts, but today I am going to focus on Strategic. Before talking with Lauren, I was like what the heck how can I be Strategic, that is the last thing that I could imagine. But as I begin to discuss with friends about this strength, they saw it in me. One friend even pointed out how could you plan a whole quinceanera without being strategic. I thought that is true but how could I relay that kind of thinking into my business, my blog.
I started thinking about some things and realized that I needed help getting my clutter thoughts to do on paper or better yet someone to hold me accountable for my posts. I had set a goal always to have some jobs in draft ready to go so when I am pulled away for other things I can still feel confident that I have a post ready to go the next day. At first, I tried having an accountability partner, but that didn’t work out. To be in accountability partnership both people have to want the relationship to work. Sadly, the partner I picked wasn’t so much for accountability.
So then after that flop, I started reading up on a few things and after taking a class that Molly from Still Being Molly held, I thought about an SEO (Search Engine Optimization) expert. I almost went with a few companies but then decided to reach out to the Trifabb group asking about their experiences with SEO experts and Molly suggested a name. I emailed her, and after a brief chat with her one Friday afternoon, I ended the phone call with an agreement to start working together. Why is that strategic you ask?
Because I have a plan at the beginning or end, (depends on how hectic my life gets) week I shoot over 5-6 drafts that I have written throughout the week to Clem and within a day or less she emails me back they are ready for publishing. Hiring my SEO expert was a strategic move on my part as I am a more focused writer and I can spend more times doing other things I love. And I am not as stressed as I used to be.
So that is how I came to learn that my Strategic strength is one of my best strengths. I can honestly say that before strength coaching I was a fly by the seat of my pants writer, but since experiencing it I have a more “strategic” ( like what I did there? 😉 ) writer.
