Moving Tips For Everyone

movingIt seems like everyone I know is moving or has moved in the past. I live in a military town, so it not unusual to see friends come and go. Here are some tips that will help you in your moving. Even if you are not moving you might find these tips helpful hints for other things.

  • Label all boxes by room and contents to save time. That way you can unpack one room at time. In the past I have made the mistake of throwing everything in one large box cramming it full with items that I could find to fit into. BIG MISTAKE and a Big Headache. It took so much longer to unpack like forever.
  • Disassemble and reassemble all your furniture items yourself. I can not tell you how many stories I have heard about movers losing little screws that hold the furniture to together.
  • Put all packed boxes in one common place. I can tell you that I used this tip when we were planning my daughter’s Quinceanara. It was a lot easier to have everything packed and ready to go in one central place than having to hunt down what I needed and wasting time.
  • Disconnect all electrical items and make sure that all cords are taped tightly to the item. I cannot tell you how many times we have lost our phone chargers and other cords because we put them in a safe place but forget where that safe place is LOL.
  • Disconnect all the appliances to save time. Do you really want to be emptying your refrigerator and freezer the day you are planning to move?? That just adds more stress on you.
  • Be prepared for the movers. If you are prepared then that is less time the movers will spend loading your boxed and remember time is money.
  • Be at your new house the day the movers are scheduled to deliver your items. This will save you a lot of backaches and headaches in the long run.
  • Last use a company like Unpakt, when trying to find a moving company. Unpakt is a digital marketplace and price comparison site for moving companies. Think of it like Kayak or Expedia, but for moving services.  Unpakt can save you money, time and headaches during your next move. Now I don’ t know about you but that is awesome.

So here is my question to you are you planning a move in the future well here is another savings for you. If you use the codes Frugal Mom or ADVFRUGAL you will get a 5% cash back on your move if you book through Unpakt between and 7/31/13. Now that will help with your moving expenses and might even pay for all those dinners out because you will be too tired to cook from all that unpacking you have to do.
