Kitchen Tips For Your First Apartment

I am feeling really old right now. My oldest daughter is moving into her own apartment. Sure, I knew that time would come some day but I just wished it wasn’t so soon. Sure she will be twenty this year but in my mind she will always be my baby.

Now that she is starting into the world of rent and jobs, I want to make sure that she has all the essentials necessary to help prepare to make her apartment a home.

She has basically all of the furniture covered as we knew this day would happen soon so we grabbed up the furniture that my parents were getting rid of for her.

But when it comes to her kitchen she doesn’t have much in appliances. So these are the things I suggested she start off with.

  • A good set of pots and pans. College students really can’t afford a lot but this is one investment that will pay for itself in the long run.
  • a toaster or toaster oven. I mean who doesn’t love toast.
  • A microwave for those late night snacks
  • And a crock pot.

Having a crock pot is so convenient. I told her all she had to do was put her meal on in the morning and by the time her and her roommate got back from classes and work, her meal would be finished. Of course you need some recipes of things to cook. So I am making her a crock pot cookbook. Don’t worry I will have it available soon for subscribers. Here is recipe that I will share with you today. It is called Hawaiian Chicken. (Man wouldn’t I like to be in Hawaii right now. Can’t you just picture a chicken with a hula skirt on right about now?)

I chose to use San-J soy sauces because it better for you. I am not normally a fan of soy sauces but in this recipe it was absolutely yummy. Some of my friends have actually made cakes using this soy sauce. I am going to have to research that one a little more and let you know if I tried it or not.

My girls loved this dish. They went back and asked for seconds and thirds on this recipe and this was the first time I had made it. So I think it is a keeper. It was so easy to make and I love how I was able to sneak a fruit in the main dish for my family. I am definitely going to be including this recipe into the cookbook for my daughter.
