Is Carpet Flooring Expensive? 5 Ways to Reduce Costs on Your Carpet Flooring

Carpeting your entire home or even just a large room can get pretty expensive. You don’t want to skimp on your carpet, of course, but don’t assume that means you can’t save any money. Even when you choose professional installation, there are several ways to save money on your carpet flooring costs.

Know Exactly What You Need

The cost of your carpet largely depends on the type that you get. Different types of carpet have different prices. While there are many vAriations within each spectrum, you have a few main choices:

  • Indoor/outdoor carpet, which is fairly inexpensive
  • Berber carpet, which is both durable and affordable
  • Shag carpet, which runs somewhere in the middle
  • And plush carpet, which is typically the most expensive

If you’re putting down carpet in a high traffic area—or outside, of course—then indoor/outdoor or berber is your best bet. Berber is also a good choice for rental properties. If you want something a bit moreluxe, then go with shag or plush.

Start Comparison Shopping

Comparison shopping is always essential, whether you’re buying a new TV, a car, or carpet. If you live in Fort Meyers, carpet solutions aren’t that difficult. When you’re visiting Fort Meyers carpet companies to compare costs, make sure you know how much carpet you need, what color you want, what type you want, and where it will go. You also have to ask about installation costs, unless you plan to do it yourself—but don’t DIY your carpet installation unless you know exactly what you’re doing.

Pick the Perfect Padding (or Don’t)

You have to put padding under your carpet. There are plenty of different varieties, so you have some room to play when it comes to the cost. Here’s the thing, though: if your current padding is still in good condition, then you don’t necessarily have to replace it. Since you can also save on your carpet costs by ripping up your carpet yourself, take a minute to judge the quality of your existing padding.

Remember the Remnant

Remnants can save you a lot of money. When a carpet store sells a roll of carpet, sometimes the buyer either doesn’t take all of it or ends up returning it, even after it’s cut. That leaves the store with remnants of pieces. They don’t want to eat the carpet, so they’ll sell the pieces at discounted prices. Now, you might think that you could never carpet an entire room with pieces, but that’s not true. A skilled installer can piece the remnants together seamlessly.

Consider Area Rugs

If you’re flexible, you can decide to go with something else entirely. A large area rug is just like a piece of carpet, except there’s generally no padding beneath it. To save even more money, you can forget about buying an actual area rug and actually get a carpet remnant bound at the store. With that option, you can get an area rug to fit any area, even if it’s oddly shaped.

Don’t let the cost of carpet or installation intimidate you, not when there are so many ways to save. Do you hire installers or do you like to put in your own carpet?
