How to Open Your Heart to God and Start Accepting Yourself
Christians have always prayed to God for guidance. Individuals ask for things like abundance, wellness, and direction. In fact, one can find themselves and a true calling through prayer. Unfortunately, many Christians do not know how to pray. Renowned priest and author Henri Nouwen wrote, “prayer leads you to see new paths and to hear new melodies in the air.”
Finding YourselfÂ
Find yourself and so much more through prayer. For example, many Catholic missionaries likely did not understand what their vocation would be. Indeed, excitement about mission work does not guarantee success. Rather, theologians say the ideal candidate has a calling to serve the Lord. Talk to your Pastor if you feel a calling in life. Pray with the Pastor and ask God for discernment. Discernment is the ability to interpret spiritual guidance.
The Bible
The Bible tells of many people who found themselves through a relationship with God. The Bible tells the story of the shepherd boy David. David had a special love for God. Consequently, David was selected over many others to become King of Israel. God said David was a man after his own heart. That’s because David did what God commanded him to do. Likewise, Moses was a laborer until God showed him the burning bush. They selected him to return to Egypt and bring the Hebrews to the promised land.
How To Pray
Rev. Billy Graham said prayer was talking to God. It doesn’t matter how one prays, aloud or silently. Christians just need to believe that God hears prayers. Many persons have special places they like to pray. For example, one may have a corner in a room where they say prayers. In fact, there are those who pray on their knees.
Other Christians believe in centering prayer. Believers clear their minds of everything and center thoughts on God. Individuals keep their spine straight and kneel down to pray. These Christians center themselves to surrender all to God. Those who pray receive answers about the direction of their lives.
Getting in Touch
The trials of everyday life cause Christians to drift away from God. Maintaining a personal relationship is a priority. Individuals can be religious, attend church, and still be out-of-touch with God. The Bible says, “draw near to God and he will draw near to you.” Therefore, re-establish the connection to God to find clarity in all you do. That is why God directs Christians to “pray unceasingly.” Those who stop talking to God, move away from him.
It’s a good idea to read the Bible daily. This is one way to keep the word fresh in your heart and mind. Reading the text goes a long way toward mending your spiritual relationship. There are Bible apps available these days. One can listen to the app while driving the car or riding an exercise bike.Â
Follow God’s Will
Christians should know what plans and ideas are pleasing to God. Indeed, it’s not wise to follow a path that’s inconsistent with God’s teachings. This is when spiritual discernment is really important. God directs us to move away from worldly things in Chapter 12 of the book of Romans. “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” “Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is.”
God wants his people to be fulfilled and happy. In return, Christians need to maintain a close relationship with him. This is possible by reading scripture, praying daily and learning to interpret the perfect will of God.
You must accept yourself for who you are because there is
no alternative BUT to be who you are. Everything else is
an accquisition of the false self.
