The most fashionable women today walk a fine line. The best styles right now are extremely edgy; however, many of them toe the line of trashy. To be completely honest, some of them just boldly cross that line. However, if you want to stay just on this side of the trendy/trashy line, there are some things you can do to keep your look edgy, yet appropriate.

Ok, the first thing you absolutely need to understand is that not everything is appropriate in all settings. A sexy cheerleader costume is perfect for a costume party, but it would not go over as well in a law office. You want to look edgy, not ridiculous. So, keep your outfits place appropriate. On top of that, certain settings have specific dress codes. Whether you are in school or work in an office, you need to make sure that your clothing fits in the dress code before you head off.

The Higher the Heels, the Lower the Hemline

Tall, sexy heels are in. Whether clunky wedges or spiked boots, the more inches you can add, the better. However, one great way to reign in the look when wearing these shoes is to pair it with something slightly more conservative. Now, that doesn’t mean that you have to wear an ankle-length skirt and turtleneck with your amazing stilettos. However, to pull off this look without looking like crap consider putting back the micro-mini.

Let Layering Liven the Look

Corsets are sexy. There is just no way around that. They are one of the biggest trends in fashion. You can get corset tops in many different colors, styles, and sizes. Have you ever considered wearing a corset top to work? Well, if you layer it correctly, you can look edgy, feel great, and still fit in the dress code. Plus, it will be easy to change for a night on the town. Simply add a cardigan or other layering top over the corset. Another option is to wear the corset over the top of a blouse. Make sure that the corset is paired with a bottom that isn’t too revealing to ensure that it is office approved.

Making your hair stand out in a crowd is a great way to edge into fashion. Bright colors and bold cuts are perfect. However, it is important to make sure that if you work in a professional office, there is nothing in the dress code against specific hair colors or styles. If there is, you can still have fun with your hair. Bright clip-in pieces that can be taken out, spray in color for the weekend, or cuts that can be worn in funky ways while not in the office are all perfect options.

The most important thing when you are walking the line between edgy and trashy is that you need to keep your feet on the ground. Trashy takes the entire look too far. Sexy is great, all skin is not.
