Making Credit Cards Work For You

cardDuring this holiday season, credit card usage increases. How many of use overspend during the holiday season? Even I overspend but I try to not to use credit cards at all. We have one that we have just for emergency and it has been years since we have used it. Yep that is one part of being frugal know your limits. My husband has the card because I know that sometimes I don’t always have the self-control that I need to carry the card around. The temptation is a big problem for me. But recognizing that problem and working toward a solution is a big step in being frugal.

With that said, I have to ask what is in your wallet?? Do you carry a credit card at all?? If so did you research to find the best credit card for your needs. Remember that not all cards are the same and some cards work for some people but not for others. It is up to us to choose the card that works best for you. The first step in doing this is to compare credit cards. Look at the fine print and make a list of the pros and cons that each credit card offers you. Do not be blinded by the promise of a locked in rate for a year, because sometimes after a year the rate will increase and you will stuck paying for that credit card years down the road. Also do not be blinded by the promise of quick cash, because what may feel good now will hurt in the long run.

When chosing a credit card to apply for you also need to look at those that credit card consolidation.   Consolidating all your cards onto one card will ease the number of bills that you have to pay at the end of the month. I don’ t know if you are anything like me but sometimes I put something down and forget where I put them. So decreasing the amount of bills that come into the house makes for less forgetfulness.

Remember the key making credit cards work for you is to be responsible. Ask yourself this question do I want or do I need this item before purchasing with your card. Most times it is a want not a need. Now don’t get me wrong credit cards are awesome if you use them responsibly and keep the spending under control. But when it comes to the point that you are working just to pay off your credit cards than that is the time that you have to stop and think about the choices you are making.
