George Washington could not tell a lie. And I can’t either. This iced cherry bread is mouth watering delicious. And in honor of our first President’s birthday and it being national cherry month, I thought I would share this recipe. This will one recipe that your family will request over and over.

Before I get into the recipe, here are some facts about cherries.

  • Cherry month was established to help showcase that the sweet fruit can be consumed and picked throughout the year.
  • Cherries have been eaten since prehistoric times.
  • Michigan Governor William G. Milliken first proclaimed February as National Cherry Month.
  • Cherries are filled with lots of antioxidants.

Fresh From the Oven Iced Cherry Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp. butter softened
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup maraschino cherries diced

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • In a medium-sized bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a separate medium bowl using your electric mixer, beat butter, vanilla extract, and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition
  • Add half the dry mixture to the wet mixture and stir until combined.
  • Add half the whole milk and stir until combined.
  • Repeat with remaining ingredients.
  • Fold in chocolate chips and maraschino cherries.
  • Spray your 9×5 loaf pan with non-stick baking spray
  • Pour the batter into a 9×5 loaf pan.
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out almost clean.
  • Remove from oven and allow to cool on a wire cooling rack.

This recipe will sure to make the cherry lover in your house happy. Enjoy with a cup of hot cocoa or coffee. It would be perfect to have with a cup of afternoon tea or topped with a scoop of ice cream.
