Fresh From the Oven Iced Cherry Bread
George Washington could not tell a lie. And I can’t either. This iced cherry bread is mouth watering delicious. And in honor of our first President’s birthday and it being national cherry month, I thought I would share this recipe. This will one recipe that your family will request over and over.
Before I get into the recipe, here are some facts about cherries.
Cherry month was established to help showcase that the sweet fruit can be consumed and picked throughout the year.- Cherries have been eaten since prehistoric times.
- Michigan Governor William G. Milliken first proclaimed February as National Cherry Month.
- Cherries are filled with lots of antioxidants.
Fresh From the Oven Iced Cherry Bread
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 6 tbsp. butter softened
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup maraschino cherries diced
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- In a medium-sized bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a separate medium bowl using your electric mixer, beat butter, vanilla extract, and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition
- Add half the dry mixture to the wet mixture and stir until combined.
- Add half the whole milk and stir until combined.
- Repeat with remaining ingredients.
- Fold in chocolate chips and maraschino cherries.
- Spray your 9×5 loaf pan with non-stick baking spray
- Pour the batter into a 9×5 loaf pan.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out almost clean.
- Remove from oven and allow to cool on a wire cooling rack.
