Last week, I was lucky enough to get an invite for the prescreening of the new movie, Begin Again that opens in theaters everywhere today. If you are not familiar with this movie , here is a brief summary to help you out.

begin again

The latest film from writer-director John Carney (ONCE), BEGIN AGAIN is a soul-stirring comedy about what happens when lost souls meet and make beautiful music together. Gretta (Keira Knightley) and her long-time boyfriend Dave (Adam Levine) are college sweethearts and songwriting partners who decamp for New York when he lands a deal with a major label. But the trappings of his new-found fame soon tempt Dave to stray, and a reeling, lovelorn Gretta is left on her own. Her world takes a turn for the better when Dan (Mark Ruffalo), a disgraced record-label exec, stumbles upon her performing on an East Village stage and is immediately captivated by her raw talent. From this chance encounter emerges an enchanting portrait of a mutually transformative collaboration, set to the soundtrack of a summer in New York City. BEGIN AGAIN is produced and financed by Exclusive Media and produced by Anthony Bregman, Tobin Armbrust and Judd Apatow.

I loved this movie. Not only did the characters have great chemistry, the music was just awesome. Not only can I see myself seeing this movie again, but I also see myself buying it when it comes out on DVD and also buying the soundtrack as well. I adores Ruffalo, Knightley, and Levine in this movie. I have always been a big fan of Mark Ruffalo so it was good to see him back on the big screen. I also loved that Greta was not taken in by all the fame and expensive things as her boyfriend Dave was. She refusing to change who is she and in the end of the movie she is the happiest.

Adam Levine from Maroon 5 rocks in this performance of Dave, the new rock star. Even though he is a supporting actor in this film I think if anyone else had been cast in the role, it would not have been the same movie. It was almost as if this role was made for him. Plus he isn’t that bad to look at, the only thing that my friend and I saw wrong with this movie is there were no scenes with his shirt off.

So if you are looking for a movie to go see this holiday weekend, go see Begin Again. Not only is the story great, the characters are believable but the music will have you tapping you feet and  moving along to it. This movie gets 2 thumbs up from me.
