Baby Health- Teething, Constipation and Colds
Whether you are a seasoned veteran or new parent, you might have questions about the health of your baby. Which vaccines do your baby needs? What’s the best way to take care of his temperature? How do you deal with teething problems and so on? The more you know about a toddler’s health the more comfortable you will feel caring for him. Remember, nothing is too small when it comes to the health of the child. The most common problems among babies are teething, constipation, and colds.
Teething
Although a baby’s first tooth might surprise you, every baby experiences this differently. While some have no symptoms, others may suffer teething problems and pain for months. As this development milestone approaches, there are some signs that you should be keen on such as drooling, teething, rash, coughing, biting, crying, refusal to feed, and night waking. However, the severity and the types of these symptoms normally vary from baby to baby. Thankfully, you can comfortably deal with these through the use of counter pressure, giving him cold food or even cold drinks. However, you need to avoid amber teething necklaces and other numbing agents.
Constipation
If your toddler hasn’t pooped for a while does it mean that he is suffering from constipation? Well, if your baby always poops after every feed and then suddenly stops for 3 days it does not mean that he is suffering from constipation. Constipation has everything to do with the consistency and not the frequency of stool. In fact, it’s normal for a baby to go for days without passing stool. However, if your baby is suffering from constipation, his poop will be hard and compact and may look like logs or pebbles. Since a hard poop may tear the rectum, there may also be some signs of blood in the diaper. Issues concerning baby health can be hard to understand hence its advisable to talk to your doctor.
Coughing and colds
One of the most difficult things is to watch your baby suffer from colds and coughs. To make it worse, most coughs and cold medications are not recommended for babies below the age of 6 and can even be dangerous. It’s, therefore, important to try out the natural treatments. If your baby is having a difficulty in breathing you can use a bulb suction to remove the mucus. If the mucus is dry and he is stuffed up, put a few drops of saline to first soften the mucus. This will not only help him sleep but will also relieve his cough and cold. You can also run a hot shower and sit with him in the steam to loosen the mucus in his chest and nose and to keep him hydrated. In addition, if he is over 1 year, honey is one of the best remedies. The good thing is that every cold is strengthening his immune system thereby making him stronger and healthier.
Well, those are some of the major problems that might affect the health of a baby. Before doing anything, it’s good to start by sharing your worries with the doctor. Since questions about baby health may come up at any time, your doctor should always be within reach.
