Allie’s Corner: Crate Rest Is No Vacation

Allie's Corner: Crate Rest Is No Vacation

Hi friends! It’s me, Allie.

Today I want to talk about something I never thought I’d have to do: crate rest. Now, if you’re not familiar with crate rest, let me explain. It’s when your humans tell you that you need to stay calm, stay still, and spend most of your time in your crate so your body can heal.Sounds simple, right?

Wrong.

I am a 15-year-old Shih Tzu, and while I may be considered a senior dog, I still have places to supervise, snacks to investigate, and people to follow around the house. So when my mommy and my human sister Gracie took me to the emergency vet one night and the vet told them I needed to take it easy and rest, I wasn’t exactly thrilled. At first, I thought crate rest sounded like a nice little vacation. A cozy bed, extra treats, and lots of naps.

But after a while, I realized that crate rest can get a little boring. I couldn’t follow my mommy to the Blog Cabin. I couldn’t patrol the kitchen floor looking for crumbs. I couldn’t keep an eye on my sister Gigi to make sure she wasn’t getting into trouble. Most importantly, I couldn’t do all the things I normally love to do. Thankfully, my mommy found a few things that made this whole crate-rest experience a lot more comfortable.

When you’re spending more time resting and healing, accidents can happen. That’s just part of being a senior dog sometimes.

The Earth Rated Pee Pads quickly became one of our favorite tools. Mom used them as crate liners to help keep my bed clean and comfortable. They gave her peace of mind and helped make cleanup much easier whenever I had an unexpected accident.

Honestly, I think they made my mommy less stressed, and when she is less stressed, I’m less stressed too.

Freshening Up Without the Fuss

Since my activity was limited and I was on strict crate rest, I couldn’t even go to one of my favorite places—my spa day with Mrs. April. Now, if you know me, you know I take my grooming appointments very seriously. Mrs. April always makes sure I look my absolute best, and I love all the extra attention.

Missing my appointment was almost as disappointing as missing my daily house patrols. Thankfully, the Grooming Wipes helped me stay feeling fresh between grooming visits. My mommy could easily clean my paws, face, and fluffy coat without disturbing my recovery. They’re gentle enough for everyday use, which is important for a senior girl with sensitive skin.

While nothing can truly replace a spa day with Mrs. April, these wipes definitely helped me feel a little less scruffy while I focused on healing.

“Don’t tell Gigi, but I still think I looked fabulous.” ?

Smelling Fresh Again

Have you ever noticed that dogs can get a little… well… doggy? Crate rest has a way of making that happen faster. That’s where the Earth Rated Refresh Mist became one of my favorite products. A few spritzes helped keep my coat smelling fresh and feeling soft. We thought the White Tea & Basil scent made the room smell more like a spa and less like an old dog bed. I’m not entirely sure what a spa is, but it sounds fancy.

No-Bath Days for the Win

My absolute favorite discovery was the Waterless Shampoo. Since getting in and out of the bathtub wasn’t the best idea while I was recovering, my mommy used the waterless shampoo to help keep me clean. She simply massaged it into my fur, gave me a quick towel dry, and I was done. No slippery tub. No scary sprayer. No wet dog drama. Just a clean, fluffy Allie.

What Crate Rest Taught Me

As much as I dislike being confined, crate rest taught me something important.Sometimes healing requires slowing down.I know that’s hard for humans too. You’re always rushing from one thing to another, trying to get everything done.

But healing—whether it’s physical, emotional, or mental—takes patience. It takes rest. It takes grace. And sometimes it takes a few really great products to make the journey a little easier.

I’m still looking forward to the day when I can spend more time following my mommy around and keeping tabs on Gigi. Until then, I’ll be resting, accepting extra belly rubs, and enjoying all the comforts that make recovery a little easier.

Until next time,
