5 Reasons Why Fish Make Good Pets

5 reasons why fish make good pets from North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

Fish are the ultimate low-maintenance pet, yet they do make really good companions. They are really easy to get along with but don’t require much from you. If you are busy, you can have the gift of a pet that you can bond with just without the hard-work that usually accompanies owning a pet. Here are 5 great reasons why fish make really great pets.

  1. Fish are known to have a tranquil, calming effect

Have you ever sat and watched a fish swimming around in their aquarium? It is really calming, isn’t it? A study recently found that watching fish in a tank was good for our physical and our mental health, with participants experiencing a decrease in blood pressure and heart rate after watching marine life. We know that pets can lift our mood and it seems that we can still enjoy this effect when we own fish.

  1. Fish are easier and less expensive to care for

Fish are super-easy and cheap to look after and you will know if you read my blog how important sticking to a budget is to me. You just have to remember to feed them twice a day and clean them out about once a week, just remember to make sure you change the water. Fish don’t require you to spend time with them like other pets might, nor do you have to take them on long walks. You can easily go away for the weekend and your fish will still be there swimming happily in their aquarium none the wiser that you haven’t been there when you get back. They make fantastic pets for those with busy lives.

  1. A fish aquarium of any size, as long as it’s well maintained, can be a beautiful addition to any room in your home

An aquarium really adds a focal point to a room, they can look really classy and really add to the decor of a home. You will know from my blog that I am concerned with being frugal in all aspects of my life and I am happy to report that you don’t need to spend a fortune on an aquarium for it to look good, there are many budget-friendly versions out there that really look the business.

  1. Fish don’t develop separation anxiety

Unlike other pets fish simply aren’t bothered if you are around or not. They are not like a dog who will make you feel guilty with their sad face everytime you leave the house or a rabbit who shows signs of stress if you are gone for a long time. Fish simply keep swimming around in their aquarium regardless of whether you are there or not.

  1. Fish are quiet

Dogs make great pets, but the barking can cause problems with neighbors or others in your street. Other pets such as birds, cats, or ferrets can be very noisy and even hamsters can keep you up at night if they start using their wheel. This isn’t something you have to worry about with fish, they make absolutely no sound. With a pet fish, you won’t have to worry about upsetting your neighbors or having your sleep disturbed.
