5 Healthy Choices for a Hearty Breakfast

5 Healthy Choices for a Hearty Breakfast from North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal mom

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and it is essential to make healthy choices to keep your body energized throughout the day. One of the best ways to start a healthy breakfast routine is by incorporating herbal teas into your diet. Herbal teas are well-known for their cleansing properties, and they are an excellent way to kickstart your digestive system in the morning.

Herbal teas come in different flavors and types, each with its unique health benefits. Some popular herbal teas include chamomile tea, peppermint tea, ginger tea, and green tea. Chamomile tea has a calming effect on the body and helps improve sleep quality. Peppermint tea aids digestion and helps soothe stomach discomforts like bloating and gas. Ginger tea has anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce inflammation in the body, while green tea contains antioxidants that protect cells from damage caused by free radicals. This is just a very brief overview of herbal teas – should you wish to learn everything about herbal teas, you can take a look at this post to get all the information you could possibly need.

Of course, tea is just one part of a good start to the day – you also need food to properly fuel your body. If you’re looking for a hearty breakfast, no doubt you’ve been scouring recipes and finding loads of options. My guess is you’re balancing a few different values and knowing what matters most could help to shed some light on the best choices to make.

The big values that drive our decisions for breakfast usually come down to these:

• Healthy and nutritious

• Affordable and cost-effective

• Easy and fast

I know. It can seem like these values are at odds. But, really they all flow together into some very natural and obvious choices for having a hearty breakfast.

Like many of us, I bet after a year of lockdown and quarantine, you’re ready for an infusion of fresh ideas. You may have already done all your childhood favorites. You might be tired of relying on cold cereal, toast, or unhealthy choices.

So, grab your journal or note cards, and let’s outline the fastest route to 5 healthy breakfasts.

Monday: Sweet Potato Hash Day

If your Monday morning has been clouded with a kind of “oh, no…here’s another week!” feeling, this breakfast will kick things up a notch.

Sweet Potato hash is like putting the best part of the week first. It’s delicious. Nutritious. It will stick to your ribs and keep you smiling all day long.

The best part about it? Everyone loves it. And, if you’re looking at the costs—it’s basically eggs, sweet potatoes, and onions. Not going to break the bank with this one.

Tuesday: Oatmeal Day

Did your Mom make oatmeal a primary cereal for breakfast? I bet she did. And she was smart to do so. Oatmeal is one of the healthiest choices—for people of all ages. It’s nutritious, loaded with fiber, and keeps you warm and toasty for hours.

Oatmeal is one of the most affordable choices for breakfast. Plus, it’s extremely nutritious. It is loaded with protein and high amounts of soluble fiber. This makes it a great choice for making you feel full all morning long.

Did you know that the Scottish who came to America originally planted oats? My guess is it was a staple that they just couldn’t imagine living without.

Wednesday: Scrambled Eggs Day

Since you’re cruising along in the week, keep things simple and easy. Most likely, you’ve already got eggs in the refrigerator. So, this won’t mean an extra trip to the grocery store. See if you have some fruit in the pantry to add some fresh fruits to the mix.

Eggs are a terrific source of nutrition. Plus, they are loaded with protein. And, you know what—they are usually quite affordable.

During the height of the pandemic, I found that eggs were being sold in large quantities, not just your standard dozen. Check your local grocery to see if you find containers such as 18 and 5-dozen at a time.

If you have a large family, you’ll love the convenience of having a big container of eggs. Additionally, if you want to explore different egg dishes, having a stack of 60 eggs in the fridge is quite motivating.

With all those eggs, you start thinking of reasons to make vegetable omelets, Frittata, or soufflé. The sky’s the limit when it comes to egg dishes.

Thursday: Fruit Smoothie Day

Time to lighten up a bit. Give your blender a workout. Toss in banana, apple, pear, and berries. If you’ve got some protein powder, go for it. Whether you prefer juice, milk, or water is up to you.

A smoothie has to be one of the fastest breakfasts on the planet. Beyond that, it’s loaded with vitamins, minerals, and protein thanks to the powder you’re adding.

Friday: Oatmeal Cups Day

If you’re short on time and need to jump on a work call, Oatmeal Cups are what you’ve been seeking. They come in terrific flavors such as pineapple, berry, and cinnamon.

Most people just brew up a cup of oatmeal at the same time they make their favorite morning beverage. Coffee. Black tea. Or herbal tea.

Sum Up

If you’re aiming for healthy and delicious breakfasts, give these a try. I think you’ll find they meet all your criteria: Simple. Easy. Fast. Nutritious. Affordable. Delicious.
