3 Memorable Family Activities To Do This Winter from NC Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

What’s on your winter bucket list? This festive season is one of my favorite times to make lifelong memories with the family. While public outings and holiday traditions might look a little different in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, there are still ways to make this winter special. From outdoor adventures to warm, happy nights at home, you don’t have to go far to find your next great experience together. Have some fun this season with these memorable family activities to do this winter.

Decorate for the winter holidays

One fun family activity during the holiday season is organizing a decoration day. This can involve decorating both the inside and outside of your house. Indoor decorations can include putting up a Christmas tree, stringing lights around the fireplace, or hanging wreaths on the walls. You can even prepare some DIY ornaments, as kids will really love seeing their handmade ornaments hanging from the Christmas tree. Outside, you can decorate your porch with lights, garlands, and inflatables. Put up lights around your roofline and in your yard and blow up some creative inflatables to get into the spirit of the season and create lasting memories with your family. A giant Santa Claus or an inflatable gingerbread man is sure to bring a smile to the faces of passersby. No matter what you choose, by taking the time to decorate your home, you can create lasting memories with your loved ones.

Cozy up by the Fire

Bonfires are a fantastic and festive way to spend a chilly winter evening. Bundle up, grab your blankets, and curl up together beside a roaring fire. I love a proper campfire cookout, so I always recommend bringing along roasting sticks for hot dogs or marshmallows. If y’all have a space away from the city lights, plan your outing for a clear night when you can watch the stars. Bonfires are also a great time for telling stories, playing games, or simply enjoying each other’s company.

Have a Camping Adventure

Summer is peak camping season, but that doesn’t mean y’all can’t pitch your tents in the winter, too. Pack your warm clothes and head out to what’s sure to be some gorgeous winter scenery. Winter camping is a great way to enjoy the outdoors while practicing social distancing. Plus, many campgrounds and parks offer cheaper rates in the winter off-season. Make sure you and the kids pack all the winter camping essentials, then head out to enjoy the winter wonderland.

Hunker Down for a Movie Night

COVID-19 has a lot of us staying home more often. I’m always on the lookout for a fun way to stave off boredom with the kids, so one of my favorite family activities to do in the winter is to have a movie night at home. Stock up on your favorite snacks and warm drinks, then settle down in front of a holiday favorite. You get bonus points if you pile on the blankets, set up a pillow fort, or turn the lights down for a truly cozy movie experience. Plus, with streaming services putting out new releases all the time, you’ll never run out of new and exciting things to watch together.
