Custom Buttons for Your Favorite Blazers

Single-breasted and double-breasted blazers have long been regarded as among the most iconic pieces of clothing for men. Blazers are a must-have in every man’s wardrobe as these can be styled in different ways and can also go well on any type of occasion.Â
How Did Blazers Come to Existence?
There is actually a long history behind blazers as they have gone through numerous changes and developments through the years. The two key influencers when it comes to the use of blazers are the Lady Margaret Boat Club and the H.M.S Blazer. It was in the year 1825 when Cambridge, England’s St. John’s College members established Lady Margaret Boat Club. The members of the club all wore bright red flannel jackets. These jackets were called blazers due to their blazing red color.
The name of H.M.S Blazer was inspired by the visit of Queen Victoria to the Royal Navy when the Commander of H.M.S Blazer ordered new uniforms to be made for all members of the crew. He created uniforms that are basically double breasted jackets featuring the Royal Navy’s custom blazer buttons. These uniforms were well-loved by the Queen.
Not long after, the term blazer rose to popularity to refer to this special type of jacket. Fast forward to the modern day where blazers have now become true icons in the male fashion world.
Blazers – Their Functions and How to Wear Them Based on Proper Etiquette
Blazers feature numerous details with several functions. As stated earlier, you can find single breasted and double breasted blazers. A single breasted blazer has two halves that are joined together by 1 up to 4 buttons, typically 2 to 3 buttons. A double breasted blazer is often more formal as it features 6, 8, or 4 blazer buttons tying the extra fabric that fold over from left to right.
More often than not, blazers have a few buttons and there are some rules you need to follow when buttoning and unbuttoning them. When it comes to single breasted blazers, the proper etiquette is to button single-button blazers at all times and the only exception is when sitting down.
For a two-button blazer, the top button should always be used and the lower button is the only one that you should unbutton. For blazers featuring three buttons, the top and center buttons must be buttoned and the third one can be unbuttoned. The waist buttons in a double breasted blazer should be buttoned.
Blazers feature some pockets and all of them have specific purposes. The upper pocket that can be found on the chest should be used exclusively for pocket squares. The large pocket found at the waist can be used freely but make sure you don’t overstock the pocket since it might end up ruining the fine lines of the blazer. There are some blazers featuring a small ticket pocket above the lower large pocket. That pocket was traditionally reserved for train tickets.
