Do you remember the old song from childhood, Beans beans the more you eat the more you toot?? Beans have always gotten a bad rap and yes they do have the unfortunate side effect of tooting for some people. I raise my hands shamefully on this one. But did you know that beans do have some redeeming qualities. First of all they are cheap and they go a long way. They are also full of nutrients that our bodies need. They have plenty of protein inside and this is great way for vegetArians to get their protein. They are also are packed with vitamins, potassium, folic acid and iron. They are also high in fiber, this is where the tooting comes in. And best of all they are disease fighting superheroes. Can you just picture a little bean wearing a cape with a big B on the back. They help in the fight against heart disease, diabetes, and some types of cancer.

So the next time you pass on the beans think about all the good things that they do for your body and put a spoonful on your plate.
