Weekends Away “Guest”: Clothing Frugality

Clothing Frugality: Dress Your Kids in Style While Saving
By Crystal Kennedy
Children need clothes. There is no way around that fact. Unless, of course, we let them run naked, but I think society would discourage such behavior. Therefore, we must dress our children.
Why not save while doing it?
Here are five simple tips to save money while dressing your children in style.
1. Shop Yard Sales: During the summer, every weekend is packed full of yard sales and garage sale. Many of these sales are full of baby/children clothing at extremely cheap prices. I have been lucky enough to come across sales with clothes from newborn to 24 months for a measly $0.25 a piece.
2. Buy Ahead: When you do find a great sale, buy ahead. No reason to pass up a good deal. It doesn’t take too much room to store a few articles of clothing.
3. Shop Consignment and Re-Sale Stores: These are great places to get quality, used name brand clothing for a fraction of the price. Often times the clothing has barely been worn or is brand new with the tags. Also, take advantage of their buy back. Upgrade your smaller clothing for the next size.
4. Browse the Clearance Rack: The clearance rack is a great place to pick up new clothing at a marked down price. My philosophy on buying new clothes is too only ever buy from the clearance rack. No reason to pay full price when the clothes will eventually hit the clearance rack.
5. Avoid Ruining Clothes: With children, this is often easier said than done. Children are messy little beings, that is why it is important to have a set of “play” clothes that are okay if stained. Always use bibs and roll up sleeves while eating.
Dressing your children does not have to be a budget breaking process if you follow these simple tips. Take advantage of sales, stock up and take care of your children’s clothing and you too can be a frugal mom in the clothing department.
