We homeschool and have been homeschooling since the beginning. My experience as been that it is difficult at times and not difficult at other times. No two curriculum are alike and just because something worked for one family or even child, doesn't mean it will work for all families or all your children.
Know your state law and join HSLDA are hands down most important!
I feel the first step is to determine how each of your children learn. After you have that figured out it's much easier to teach them how they need to be taught and you can take it a day at a time, a year at a time.
Of course we didn't learn any of this until we were half way though our first school year. I wouldn't change any of it though, not the bad days or temper tantrums we'd have when we struggled to understand each other in our new roles, not just as Mommy & son, but as teacher and student too. Each year has gotten better and I'm hoping this year (our 4th year) will be great. I wish you the best of luck, no matter what you choose!
