Tips for Creating a Custom Memory Journal

Designing a memory journal is an excellent way to document our favorite memories so that we can relish them for years to come. Moreover, we can look back on all the greatest highlights of our lives in the company of those we love.

Does this sound appealing to y’all? If so, you’ll be happy to know that creating a custom memory journal is a fun activity that you can pull off with a few of my simple tips.

Gather and Curate Your Favorite Memories

When y’all are sifting through tips for creating a custom memory journal, remember that gathering and curating the memories you want to include is an excellent first step. I’d start by dusting off those old shoeboxes full of candid family snapshots. Or I might go into the garage or attic and dig up some of the kiddos’ old art projects and those cute little pictures they drew for me.

Digging up that perfect wedding portrait or your late mother’s lace glove is something else you might do if that’s feasible. The point is to select meaningful items that represent y’all’s favorite memories. Then, if I were you, I’d lay them out in an order that makes sense. This way, when the time comes, it’ll be easier to put the first few pages of the journal together.

Pro-Tip

Gathering your favorite memories is exciting. But remember, y’all have new ones to make. Leave room for some blank pages, too!

Handcraft a Dynamite Memory Journal

This next step requires craftiness, creativity, and some basic office supplies. There are a couple of different ways to approach it. I’ve found that it’s easy to make memory journals a family craft. So if y’all want to go that route, you can make some simple journals with cardstock, blank sheets of paper, a stapler, and some markers or puffy paint to decorate with.

However, if you’re looking to create something a bit more complex and sophisticated, upgrade to materials like leather, thick stitching thread, and stock paper with a healthy supply of scrapbooking materials. Of course, y’all need a stapler to bind everything together. But thicker fabrics will require more heavy-duty tools like a manual or electric book stapler to secure the journal adequately.

In any case, when I craft anything like this, I go all out and get creative with the page designs, and I encourage y’all to do the same! Leave a little space for some doodles. Or cut out a secret compartment for a small charm or souvenir.

Collaborate With Your Favorite People

Perhaps the most crucial tip for creating a custom memory journal is collaborating with your favorite people on what should go on each page. I want to remind you that making memories is always better when we do it with those we love.

So ask them what they might want to see in the memory journal someday. Have your loved ones pick out a couple of their own items to include in the book. Doing this will ensure that you fill your journal with a diverse array of beautiful memories that y’all can share with those closest to you!
