The Circus Is Coming To Town

It’s coming your way with an amazing array of performers and animals from around the globe!
The circus is coming to Raleigh, NC’s RBC center. I thought in honor of this awesome event I would share a little about the circus. I actually went this circus about 2 years ago with Gracie’s 2nd grade class and it was amazing. Here are some fun facts.
It’s Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® Presents FULLY CHARGED?.
o   Send in the clowns! Wearing size 28EEEEE shoes, and pounds of makeup each year, the Funny men and women from Ringling Bros. famous Clown Alley come from six states and three countries to deliver qualified comedic chaos to audiences across the country. Don’t forget to bring your smiles – you’ll need them!
BEHIND THE SCENES!

 Horses (24)

 Paint Horse (4)

 Arabian Horses (13)
 Miniature Horse (2)
· Did you know? Each Asian elephant is born with toenails, hair, and four teeth – two upper, two lower. An elephant may get up to 6 sets of teeth in a lifetime.
How cool would that be to have 6 sets of teeth??
· Did you know? In 1995, because of a deep commitment to the conservation of the endangered Asian elephant, the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Center for Elephant Conservation® was established in central Florida. It has become a global leader in the reproduction, research and retirement of these magnificent animals, and works with partners world-wide to help ensure the survival of the species.
THE TRAIN
· The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® circus train that brings Fully Charged® to each city on tour has a total of 59 cars, and has a total length over a mile long.
· The 59 cars on the Blue Unit Train include: 4 animal stock cars, 30 coaches for living, 2 concession storage cars, 19 flat bed equipment cars, 1 pie car (diner), 1 generator car, 1 shop car, and 1 auxiliary generator/shop car.
· The state-of-the-art generator car produces enough electricity to power the entire train, making it completely self sufficient 24/7/365.
· Periodic water stops are scheduled during train trips to refill water tanks for animals and people.
· Special stops are arranged on longer trips so the animals can get out for exercise.
  • Each year an average of 1000 hours is spent traveling by train from city to city.
  • The average distance the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® train travels between cities is 350 miles.
  • The red unit train will travel an average of 16,000 miles in one year going coast to coast.
  • The Ringling Bros. red unit train will bring Fully Charged to 78 cities on its two year tour.
  • The train master walks a minimum of 3 miles per day in taking care of every aspect of the Ringling Bros. train.
  • Each train car is custom built for a specific purpose at Feld Entertainment Rail Recycling Center in Palmetto, FL
· It takes the Ringling Bros. rail recycling team 9000 man-hours to build one train car for The Greatest Show On Earth®.
· Did you know? The animal cars always ride at the front of the train, assuring the smoothest ride, right behind the engine!
I hope that I will be able to get a picture of the train when we go.
· Did you know? Musically speaking, each Ringling Bros. performance may be slightly different, as the band leader conducts the music to match the unique movements of the animal and human performers, unlike a show where performers conform to prerecorded music,
LIGHTS/ELECTRIC/EFFECTS
An additional 10-12 spotlight operators are hired locally in each city. They rehearse lighting the show one time before the audience sees it.
I love how they support the local economy
· Did you know? The Lighting Designer, part of the creative team for each Feld production, creates a custom design for each act in the show – giving it the proper color, intensity, angle, and other lighting effects to make each act look spectacular.

The Most Electrifying Edition of The Greatest Show On Earth® comes to the RBC Center in Raleigh – February 8 – 12, 2012
Fully Charged celebrates ‘performance power’ that boosts circus-goers’ excitement. The amazing acts, which can only be seen at The Greatest Show On Earth®, include Tabayara, a dynamic animal trainer whose rare ability to communicate with animals allows him to ride rearing stallions at a fully-charged gallop and orchestrate majestic four-ton Asian elephants in a symphony of dance. When he stands inside a cage, eye to eye with 12 ferocious tigers, Tabayara sees family where others see danger.
The fearless Fernandez Brothers dial up the thrills as they perform daring feats of athleticism on the Twin Turbines of Steel, including extreme jumps and twists inside the moving wheels! Audiences will crackle with excitement as they watch Guillermo perform a 360-degree, flying-forward somersault, three stories in the air, a feat so difficult it has only been attempted by one other person in the 141-year history of Ringling Bros. The Human Fuse, Brian Miser, sets the arena sky ablaze as he rockets through the air from his self-made human crossbow. Don’t blink as he flashes across the sky in less than a second, and travels 110 feet at 65 miles per hour.
Ever wonder how many clowns it takes to change a light bulb? The hilarious hoopla continues to flow as the clowns from the world-famous Ringling Bros.® Clown Alley, charge up the audiences’ funny bones with hysterical silly antics and clownish comedy.
