AFM Summer Reading List

If you are a fan of fairies or other woodland creatures than Keeper of Reign by Emma Right is the right book for you to read. Here is a quick summary of the book.

Keeper-199x300

Books written in blood. Most are lost, their Keepers with them. A curse that befell a people. A Kingdom with no King. Life couldn’t get more harrowing for the Elfies, a blend of Elves and Fairies. Or for sixteen-year-old Jules Blaze. Or could it?
For Jules, the heir of a Keeper, no less, suspects his family hides a forgotten secret. It was bad enough that his people, the Elfies of Reign, triggered a curse which reduced the entire inhabitants to a mere inch centuries ago. All because of one Keeper who failed his purpose. Even the King’s Ancient Books, did not help ward off that anathema.
Now, Gehzurolle, the evil lord, and his armies of Scorpents, seem bent on destroying Jules and his family. Why? Gehzurolle’s agents hunt for Jules as he journeys into enemy land to find the truth. Truth that could save him and his family, and possibly even reverse the age-long curse. Provided Jules doesn’t get himself killed first.

I will have to admit that I had a hard time settling down to read this book. I don’t know if it was because my mind has been going a mile a minute since the girls started school and knowing that I will soon start my full time job or if it was something else. But once I finally settled down to read this book because of deadlines looming I found myself actually enjoying this book. I love the fact that it is a book about siblings and how they are forced to overcome their own fears to look out for their lives of their siblings. It goes to show that people will go to great links to protect the ones that they love. Sometimes if it means losing their own life or putting their own lives in danger.

I love the fact that animals play a big part in this story. To often times, animals are overlooked in today’s society. I really felt for the little squirrel who is attacked by locust and the children are hiding. That scene had me in tears of course I read it the day that my little love bunny, Pandie passed away. So my heart was already breaking.

Also like how the greatest lesson of this book was that sometimes you can not believe all that hear. The children are told several times that their relatives are dead only to find out that some of what they heard was not true. What a great lesson we all need to learn right.

This would be a great book to read on a long car trip.
