September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

September is childhood cancer month. Being a former teacher, I have seen many students that have been diagnosed with cancer. It just breaks my heart. And I have personally been affected by cancer as both my sister and my dad died from it. And back before Gracie was diagnosed with epilepsy the doctors suspected a brain tumor. So my heart breaks for parents who have had to see their children suffer.

Ways to contribute to this cause

First and foremost, consider checking out Go Fund me pages like  https://www.gofundme.com/c/blog/childhood-cancer-awareness.

PILLOW of HEALTH: PILLOW of HEALTH® has a Hug One, Give One campaign that directly helps kids who are battling cancer. For every PILLOW of HEALTH® Kids Pillow that is purchased, the company will give one Kids Pillow to a child with cancer. This is an ongoing campaign that PILLOW of HEALTH® offers that fall in line with their mission of giving back. While this offer stands indefinitely and allows you to give back year-round, don’t forget that September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and a great time to join in the mission.

Ivory Ella: Ivory Ella is an online clothing store with the mission of selling clothes for a cause. It is affiliated with Save The Elephants, an organization specializing in wildlife conservation of elephants. With its passion for charity, Ivory Ella is selling select items that when purchased will go towards supporting Boston Children’s Hospital this month. Ivory Ella has committed a minimum contribution of $30,000 for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in 2017, and by purchasing these select items, you can help contribute to this cause.

American Childhood Cancer Organization: Pajamas are a daily uniform for children undergoing treatment for cancer, which can often make them feel different and alone. The American Childhood Cancer Organization has created a movement called PJammin in which you post a selfie in your pajamas to social media so the children don’t feel so alone. PJammin also raises funds for the organization—to wear your PJs for the day, you send in a donation of any amount. You can do this on your own or even host an event at work or with friends.

St. Jude Children’s Hospital: Another event you can participate in to show your support is the St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer. You have the option to either participate in a local walk or donate to those who are participating. If you do not live near an upcoming walk, you can also join the Virtual Walk/Run. Don’t wait to sign up, these runs are coming up quickly!

For a Day Foundation: The For a Day Foundation is a program that allows you to join or create a local chapter in which you volunteer to help children be something exciting for a day. Whether that’s making them feel like a princess/prince or a superhero for a day, you have the opportunity to give them a day they will never forget.
