Protecting Your Family—One Step at a Time

Protecting Your Family—One Step at a Time from North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

If there’s one thing as moms we want to do, it’s to protect our family. We often do this without thinking. You know the stories of women who have lifted cars to save their children. The tales of people who ran into fires to rescue a child from harm.

While we may think, “I could never do that,” I believe it’s not true. You could. You can. And whether you believe it or not, you will be the mama bear, the mama lion, and the one who will go further than you ever imagined.

In the last year, we’ve all seen this. We know men and women who rose to the occasion and did things that they didn’t believe they could. We know women who managed to juggle their family safety and security—against all odds.

So, let’s look at a few of the things that you can do and can acknowledge yourself for doing.

Creating a Safe Place

Safety is something that means different things to different people. It can also change at different times and conditions. During the last year, many of us found that safety moved to a much higher priority in our list of values.

As a mom, you’re in tune with your own safety needs. And, you are often the one who can sense what your spouse and children need to feel safe.

Providing a Nourishing Place

No question, we all know about comforting. For many of us, we seek comfort with and through food. This can, of course, go out of bounds. We’ve seen this across the U.S., as people are now struggling with weight gain during COVID.

While we seek comfort, we can also seek true nourishment. A simple move is to eat less meat and choose more whole foods. Cooking with plenty of fruits and vegetables is simpler and saves money. Plus, you can create wonderful vegetarian meals and make them with love. We can provide a path for our family to have health-and-nourishment without excessive reliance on unhealthy choices.

If you have been seeking to nourish your family with rich choices, starchy foods, and high-fat selections, take a moment to rethink. With small changes, you can provide true nourishment and support the health and well-being of the people you love.

Speaking Openly

In some families, people express themselves openly and transparently. In others, the norm is one of concealment and opaqueness. Which one would you rather live in?

We are often afraid to speak our minds and be genuine. Why? Because we may fear that we’ll be judged, ousted, or rejected. If you have this experience, it can be challenging to speak openly.

However, as is often the case, we may believe our ideas. In many cases, it’s possible to speak freely when you have a close friend, loved one, or ally. If you notice that you are not speaking openly, take the first step.

Start with speaking about your own experience. Make statements that start with “I” instead of “You.” By creating an open field for expressing what’s going on, you can help your family feel safe and secure.

Planning For The Future

No one likes to plan for the unthinkable. But, plan we must. That’s why considering term life insurance can be a smart move. It’s the thing that you can do to prepare for an unexpected event that could leave your family vulnerable.

The interesting thing is, when you take this step, you’ll feel better. You’ll know that you have done everything possible for your family to be safe and secure.

Recharging Yourself

It’s impossible to take care of others if you aren’t taking care of yourself. I know, this might seem selfish. You might think that self-care is narcissism. Nothing could be further from the truth.

When you take care of your body, psyche, and emotions you are in a stronger place to take care of others. You won’t be approaching your family from a wobbly center of neediness. You will be able to openly give your attention, time, and care. Plus, you’ll be able to give and have abundant energy for your peace of mind.

What’s your next move? What step will you take today to protect your family?
