Meet Dr. Patrice Carter in the Women in Business series from North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

Tell me a little bit about you.

I am a native of Fayetteville, NC.  I am married to the love of my life. I have three bonus children I am a Christian Life Coach Trainer; motivational Speaker and published Author.  I am a suicide and domestic violence survivor.  I am a Veteran of the Army Reserve

Tell me about your business.

My business is Breakpoint Coaching Collective which is a virtual school where I certify and train Christian Life Coaches as well as eCourses and webinars.

What struggles have you faced in your business?

I left my full time $80K job to go into fulltime entrepreneurship, starting from scratch. I had no contacts, very little money. I felt like an imposter at times and I definitely didn’t have a path to follow. My family thought I was nuts and I was scared that I might be a little nuts too!

How have you overcome those struggles?

Prayer, my faith in Jesus, learning and growing through training, networking, educating myself, putting one foot in front of the other; asking for targeted and necessary feedback and making adjustments and changes as needed.

Who were your mentors growing up?

My parents, husband, fellow Coaches, older women, and my sister

If you were to give advice to a woman going into the field you are in what would it be?

Start NOW; learn as you grow, but do work from a plan; don’t be afraid to fail and get back up; people are waiting on you.

Have you found that being a woman in your field is harder or easier?

I haven’t found that it matters at all. In my field people need help and they don’t generally care about the gender as much as can I relate to them, have I been down the path they’re on and am I a professional who’s able to walk them through what they need.

Tell me about the advantages and disadvantages of being a woman.

I don’t understand the question. But, overall there is NOT A SINGLE disadvantage to being a woman nor would I use that as an excuse not to try.

Have you ever have to overcome a hostile work environment?

Yes, multiple times, by men and the “boys club” mentality.

What made you decide on your chosen field?

I feel the Lord chose me and it fits exactly who I am as a person and allows me to use all of my strengths and weaknesses.

Anything else you would care to share.

No.
