Making College A Little Affordable

College is looming ahead in our near future, with Maddie being a junior in high school it soon to be a reality for us. I am looking for ways to make college more affordable and I came across Campus Book Rentals. Did you know that you can save from 40 -90% off of those astromical bookstore prices? Every little bit helps right?? But that is not all you also save on the shipping because that is FREE!!!! (Yes the shipping is free to you and when you return them as well.) You can highlight and basically use these textbooks just like you would normally and just return them once you are finished. That is another plus, can save you some money on highlighters if someone else has already highlighted the information for you. I think the concept of renting books is an awesome idea. Because seriously how many of us have kept our college textbooks. You know that as soon as you finished the course you sold those books. And if by chance you don’t happen to pass that course there is renting plans are flexible. So no worries there, how cool is that?

Just look at the price comparison here.  Check out this book An Introduction to Reading it normally sells for $98.67 but to rent it is less than $30 dollars. Now that is some saving.

But is even more amazing is that for each book rented a portion of the rental cost is donated to Operation Smile. Operation Smile is a program that allows children born with cleft lips and cleft palates the opportunity to have surgery that they could not afford without the help of Operation Smile.

Did you know that every three minutes a child is born with a cleft — often unable to eat, speak, socialize or smile? In some places these children are shunned and rejected. And in too many cases, their parents can’t afford to give them the surgeries they need to live a normal life.

That’s where Operation Smile comes in. Operation Smile — through the help of dedicated medical volunteers — has provided more than 2 million patient evaluations and over 200,000 free surgeries for children and young adults born with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities.

So you see even just the simple act of getting a textbook for your college classes can help someone smile.  Both the parents of the college student and the child born cleft palate will be able to smile as well. The college parent because of all the money they are saving and the Operation Smile parent because they can see the beauty of their child’s first smile.
