Kept Waiting

Normally, I try to keep my posts upbeat but today I have a beef. Today was Maddie’s appointment with her orthopedic doctor. We waited for over a hour to be seen. Then when the doctor comes in he spends less than 5 minutes with her. Really not listening to her concerns and basically tells her that her hip pain ( that has her limping off the field is not real.) Really, this is a child who never misses school but yet has missed school after a grueling game because she was in so much pain. But yet her pain is not real according to him. She is not a happy camper right now. She rebelled a little bit after she was told that. He left the room and she sat down on the stool that had a sticker on it that said for Doctor’s Use Only. She said she could be a doctor for all the time he spent with her and all the care and concern he showed for her. I had a laugh about that one. I told her if it continued to bother her we would go to our pediatrican- who I know will listen. She said right now she was alright but if it gets worse she wants to go. Have you ever had an experience like this?

  1. Oh my gosh, how awful! 🙁 I'm so sorry. I get really frustrated with doctors that barely spend any time with me, much less when it comes to my kids!

  2. I'm big on doctors listening to me because they didn't listen to my sister…. She was having a lot of pain when she ran and it was because of a rare genetic bone cancer. They barely caught it in time and because of the delay of care she had to have her leg and half of her pelvis amputated. Sooooooo…. I don't tolerate not being listened to well.

  3. Yes, and it is FRUSTRATING! Last night I spent 8 hours in the ER due to complications with shingles that I'm having. I kept telling them I couldn't sit due to the pain. What did they do? They kept telling me to sit in a wheelchair if the regular chairs were uncomfortable. I finally wound up on the floor. I never did get an answer that was satisfactory, but I guess I'll just have to go with the flow for now and see what more happens from this goofy disease.

  4. Every doctors visit seems to be like this for me! If your daughter is growing, that can explain the hip pain. I grew 10 inches in about 8 months and the pain was excruciating (I was 13 when it started). I could barely walk, sit, stand or sleep. I hope it is something as simple as “growing pains”. Good luck!
