Keep the Summer Fun Going Throughout the Fall

Keep the Summer Fun Going Throughout the Fall from North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

With fall just around the corner, we know that many of us want to keep that easy breezy summer vibe going as long as we can! Since many of us are in a climate that gets cooler in these upcoming months, spending time outside as often as we can is a much welcome respite from cabin fever that can hit many of us in the cooler months.  So keep reading to find out ways to keep the summer fun going.

So how do you do that effectively and maximize your time outside? We have put together a list of suggestions to keep summer alive well beyond September, even when winter looms around the corner.

Keep on Grilling

Too often we associate grilling with summer and picnics, but that is simply not the case anymore. With grills made to withstand the cooler temps and weather conditions, you can be barbecuing and eating healthier grilled meals with your portable grill all the year round.  Make sure your grill is protected with a good cover and pick up a grill light that will allow you to offset the shorter hours of daylight. Look for one with bright LED lights (200 Lumens preferred) and that has an easy touch off and on button feature since you will not only need bright light but will also be easy to use when your hands are full of your plates and platters.  And with all these delicious grilled meals, you will likely want to entertain!  So, keep on reading to see how you can keep your guests cozy while they sit outside with you, as you dazzle them with your grill master skills.

Prepare for the Elements

No, we don’t expect that you will want to sit outside in a snowsuit every night, but even into late fall, it is possible to enjoy the crisp air and conversation outside without having to put on a hat or gloves. Find a basket and stock it with throw blankets that can be tossed across your lap as you wine and dine or catch up with family and friends.  Keep them rolled up and ready to go so that you are not scrambling to accommodate your company. Also, make sure that you are well stocked on firewood so that you can create warmth to last well into the evening hours.  Speaking of fire…

Outdoor Fire Pits & Places

Nothing creates an ambiance like firelight and candles. And while candles will not do the job of keeping you warm, you will want to consider a fire pit or fireplace to entertain and enjoy during cooler fall nights.  Easy enough to maintain, these items will give you year-round space for s’more making or just enjoying the stars above by making your outdoor area livable for more of the year. Look into buying skewers that you can keep on hand for roasting marshmallows.  Purchase plastic cups to keep outside and even thermoses for hot cocoa or other warming drinks.

Heat Lamps

Once limited to outdoor dining areas, the portable heat lamp is now easy so that all homeowners can have warmth when they are entertaining outdoors or dining on their deck. They move around on wheels and are easy enough to transport around your yard or deck conveniently.  Most require a propane tack refill which is easy enough to keep in check just like you do with your gas grill.

Have a Seat

A very important part of all of this outdoor enjoyment is having a place to sit.  Your furniture does not need to be put away as early as you would have once thought.  The fabrics and construction of patio sets are now made like the grills, to withstand the elements and change in temperature.  While a cover is a great idea and will add to the life of your furniture, purchasing simple plastic Adirondack chairs will provide you with durable and long-lasting seating options.  Couple these up with those cozy blankets, and you will be having a fireside chat in no time!

How Does Your Garden Grow?

It is likely that your garden doesn’t grow at all past September, but that is only because you have not done enough research!  There are a variety of interesting plants that thrive in cooler temperatures that are both ornamental and edible.  Cabbages and cruciferous vegetables tend to be in these categories, but your local greenhouse or garden center can assist you with finding the right plants for your space.  Container gardening works as well if you are in a smaller space.

We look forward to hearing how you like to keep summer going all year – and if all else fails, you can always book a trip to the islands for some sunshine and sand! Tell me what ways do you keep summer fun going?
