Personal hygiene should be a priority no matter where you are or under what circumstances. By keeping clean and healthy, a lot of complications can be avoided. It isn’t always easy to maintain personal hygiene especially if you’re traveling, but still, you should try your best. Stay clean as much as is possible. As it might not always be easy, you should always take precautions.

Hand hygiene is critical since many diseases are conveyed from simple touching. Germs can be easily transferred from one place to another with hands as a carrier. Simple actions such as greeting through hands, eating, touching communal things in public etc. can prove to be dangerous if hands are not properly cleaned after. Washing hands is the best way to prevent the transfer of disease and infectious germs. Hands are mostly responsible for spreading flu, colds, infections etc. Other conditions can also be prevented by adequately washing hands and keeping a few precautionary measures in mind.

Taking care of your nails is also a part of hand hygiene. They should be cut short and kept clean to avoid getting dirt stuck under and prevention from letting germs find a place under your nails.

Hand washing is the simplest and most effective way to save yourself from contracting an illness or passing it on. Unfortunately, soap and water are not available everywhere, but most places are not as clean as they might look. A warmer climate bolsters germs and viruses, so if you’re staying at or traveling to a warmer climate such as the tropics, be more careful than usual.

A traveler should keep the following tips in mind, and these should be followed generally anywhere and all the time.

•    Wash your hands after touching anything that might be dirty or has been handled by other people, even something as simple as a cell phone or a computer.

  •  Always wash hands after using the toilet.

•    Females should always wash their hands after handling sanitary napkins.

•    Wash hands after touching an animal, an animal’s fur, holds a lot of dirt and germs.

•    Wash before eating food and after you’re done with your meal. Be more cautious about washing your hands properly before eating because bacteria can easily transfer from hand to mouth and you could contract an infection.

•    Always wash your hands before touching a patient or a wounded person.

•    Wash hands after leaving a patient’s room and hospitals generally.

•    Wash hands before treating a wound or a cut.

•    Clean your hands thoroughly after handling or disposing of garbage since they can become breeding grounds for disease.

•    It is advised to wash hands at frequent intervals when cooking.

•    Wash hands before touching and carrying a baby since their bodies are more prone to infections and diseases.

•    Wash hands before and after changing diapers, and also before and after washing up a child who has used the toilet.

•    Wash hands after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing as you could pass these germs to others.

•    Wash hands after handling animal feed or animal waste, and handling pet food or pet treats.

•    It is suggested to open restroom doors with arms or use some covering to pull open doors. This can prevent your hands from again contracting any germs.

Travelers should carry the following amenities in their bags during traveling:

•    A small bar of dry soap or a container of liquid soap if water will be easy to access. (Anti-bacterial soaps should be the first choice)

•    Wet Tissues

•    Paper towels

•    Germicidal/Disinfectant products (preferable a spray or wipes)

•    Packets of tissue papers

•    Small roll of toilet paper

•    Sheets of dry paper towels (they can come in handy for handling communal things)

Hand washing involves the following simple steps:

1.    Wet your hands

2.    Lather your hands

3.    Scrub for 20-30 seconds

4.    Rinse with water

5.    Dry them properly

To properly wash hands you need running water and soap of any kind.

By following these practical steps, one can easily prevent the spread of disease. While scrubbing your hands, be sure to cover all parts of your hand. Wash between fingers, under fingernails and the back of your hands. Rinse properly and dry your hands from the wrist down. Travelers might not have access to all amenities and so should carry hand sanitizers. Any waterless, alcohol-based hand gel consisting of at least 60% alcohol will be right use. Make sure to rub the substance all over your hands and cover all parts for it to keep you clean and safe effectively. Travel size soaps and hand sanitizers can be easily found at most stores, or you can also order them online from online pharmacies such as Click Pharmacy.

A few seconds of proper washing can save you and your body from many illnesses. Prevention is always better than cure.
