Holiday Gift Guide: Mary’s Son

mary's sonMary’s Son is an awesome book to read to remind you of the real reason for this holiday season. I found that I could not put this book down. I love how the main characters interact with Santa Claus and how Santa tells them the real reason for the season by sending them back in time to the real reason for season. Watching the birth of Jesus unfold, leads the children to rethink their choices in life and come to the realization that everything is not about them.

Here is a brief summary of the book:

Eleven-year-old Sarah Stone is lonely in a mansion amidst butlers, nannies, housekeepers, and a father who is too busy for her. She is angry at the world. On the other side of town, in a slum called the “Sink,” Jared Roberts and his gang barely survive broken families and a hardscrabble existence. Jared, too, is angry, and intends to do something about it. He eyes Sarah’s mansion for a pre-Christmas burglary that will show the world who he really is.

Into this mix comes a mysterious little man named Nicholas, who intrigues, yet scares, Sarah and Jared. Against incredible doubt and cynicism, Nicholas tries to guide the two youths away from their anger and the suffering that will follow, only to realize he can not move them. Finally, he whisks them to another time and place where a Christmas long ago teaches them the true meaning of life in a way they never imagined.

“MARY’S SON” is a modern tale of the fears and passions of youth overcome by the wonder of the real Christmas story.

When I was reading this book, my mind pictured that photo that I have seen many times of Santa kneeling before the baby Jesus, as he is lying in the manager. Because He is the true reason for the season. Even if you are not religious this book would be an awesome and entertaining read for this holiday season.

Winner of 3 Mom’s Choice Awards (middle grade reader), bestselling Mary’s Son: A Tale of Christmas was written Darryl Nyznyk. Father of four daughters, Darryl wanted to develop a modern-day story that portrays the true meaning of Christmas, much like the classics did. This book is available for kindle at the price of $2.99 for the whole month of December. Buy it here.
