Guest Post: The Holiday Season: The Best Time to Revamp & Redecorate a Room
Written by Caroline Casetti
As you walk from room to room throughout your house, there is always that one room that has gotten a little dingy looking or maybe just a little out of date. Money is something that is on everyone’s minds these days and completely revamping or remodeling a room might be out of the question. But there are a few ways that you can turn a space or room in your home and make it feel as if you’ve completely redecorated. The holiday season always tends to bring a new beginning to our lives – redoing a room to reinforce the holiday spirit can help awaken your senses, encouraging you to clean out some of that clutter as you start the New Year fresh and revamped.
How to Revamp the Room
The steps to revamping a room can be overwhelming, but keeping it simple and approaching it methodically will help you in the long run…
- Step 1 – De-clutter and Clean: Cleaning and de-cluttering is the first step to a quick and inexpensive decorating project. Making sure the room is free of clutter extra is a very important start and will jump kick your project into gear.
- Step 2 – Remove the Unnecessary Things: Remove all knick knacks, photos, pictures, shelves and anything other than the large furniture in the room. Stripping the room of all the extra things helps to get you focused on what you have to work with and what your new room is going to look like and the little things you can add to what you already own.
- Step 3 – Change the Color: A new coat of paint will add so much new life to a room and by doing it in the spring you will be doing on the inside of your room what is going on in the world outside. Taking a room and drastically changing the paint color of all the walls can be a bit overwhelming but changing just one wall or even just the chair rail can be so effective.
- Step 4 – Rearrange the Room: Rearrange or move furniture around the room to see where they fit and what looks different. Just de-cluttering and rearranging the furniture is sometimes all you needed
- Step 5 – Replace or Recycle Other Items in Your Home: The last and most overlooked part of an inexpensive revamp is swapping. Swapping is taking what you have and moving it and rearranging it around the house in different rooms to give your Christmas decorating project a sure-fire finish. You will be amazed at some pictures and knick knacks that will work in your new space. Swapping out lamps will give different light sources and give the room a whole new look.
Redecorating and revamping your living space does not have to be an expensive project. Besides, you aren’t renovating – only revamping. Simple steps will help you feel better about your living space and will get you ready for the holiday festivities. You have enough to worry about when it comes to holiday shopping, so don’t fret on overspending on redecorating or revamping your home. You have the entire holiday season to put up some fun Christmas decorations and bright New Year’s Eves lights. Take your time to enjoy revamping and redecorating your home.
