teenager talking

Imagine this you walk into a room full of strangers and you are supposed to mingle and interact with them. But you are so scared that you are at a loss for words. Ever been in that situation before? I know I have been too many times to count. It is scary right? Well now imagine that room full of strangers are teenagers. Not that takes the word scary to another level.

If your teenagers are anything like mine, getting them to talk is harder than pulling teeth. That is where the book, Get Your Teenage Talking by Jonathan McKee, comes in handy. Let’s just read the summary and see how you can get your teenagers talking.

In this book, veteran youth expert Jonathan McKee shares 180 creative discussion starters to help teens open up about issues that matter. You’ll find tips for interpreting their responses and follow-up questions. From light-hearted to more serious, these conversations springboards will encourage even the most reluctant teen to talk about friends, school, values, struggles and much more.

I will have to say that I loved this book. The use of the book goes far beyond getting your teenager to talk. The discussion starters I have started to use on my Facebook fan page and I love the results that I am getting. I have also used my two teenagers and preteen as guniea pigs as well. At first it was slow going but once they realized I wasn’t going to stop asking questions they started to cooperate. The hardest one to crack was my middle daughter, Mikaela. She has always been the one that doesn’t share her feelings easily. But I found that this book helped to open up the channels of communication. I see so many uses for this book than what it was intended for.So in my opinion this book is must have for all.
