The Invisible Threat

Almost a million companies have their base of operations in London, and almost a million companies are slowly being forced to the bottom of the pile by that city’s grossly inferior business infrastructure. The internet is one of the pillars of any successful business, and a reliable, fast connection is what helps businesses get ahead in almost any industry. London, however, seems to have brought the wrong tool for the job in that arena. While the rest of the world adopts super fast fibre broadband technology, London stubbornly refuses, preferring instead to have slower connection speeds than Birmingham and Bratislava. Paris has an average connection speed nearly 4 times as fast as London’s! How many businesses will choose to stay in London knowing that greener pastures are all around them? With London being the beating heart of the UK’s economy, the results of that inevitable migration are troubling to think on.

The problem extends past just the business realm, however. Government officials do not have access to this technology either. In a crisis, the Prime Minister himself would still have to wait patiently for the pages to load and suffer through endless buffering during video conferences. To me, that sounds like a recipe for disaster. The below infographic from Prosyn IT Support, who offer IT relocation in London, amongst other services, shows the extent to which London’s current infrastructure is outdated, and what that could mean as a result.
