Fun Ways To Get Your Child off Electronics

Fun Ways To Get Your Child off Electronics

Electronics can offer a welcome reprieve when we have a lot to do, but it’s arguably not the best way for our children to spend their time. Instead, y’all should find some fun ways to get your child off electronics and entice them to do something that will be more beneficial in the long run.

Spark Their Imagination

Children are excellent at playing pretend. If your kids are still young, y’all can create all sorts of fun or silly scenarios to entertain them. Maybe a dragon is stealing all their blocks, and they need to get them back. You could also try being the villain from their favorite video game and have them pretend to be the hero and defeat you. Enticing our children to explore with their imagination and play pretend can be a great way to get them away from the screen.

Play Some Board Games

If your child needs more structured entertainment, board games can offer a fun way to spend time together with no screens involved. Plus, there are so many different options available. There is no shortage of games targeted to children and families that can provide a fun way to spend time.

Go Outside

Going outdoors is perhaps the best way to spend time that would have otherwise gone to a screen. There are many developmental benefits to having your child play outside, and fun-filled opportunities are nearly limitless depending on the time of year. Is it raining? Splash in some puddles! Snow? Time to build a snowman! Is the sun out? Enjoy the nice weather and go swimming! Y’all can also explore a local park, try a nature scavenger hunt, or ride a bike together. Soon enough, I’m sure your child will completely forget about their tablets and video games.

Craft Time

Our kids can likely turn just about anything in our houses into a craft. A perfect example is old toilet paper rolls. They can become the base for a construction paper bat, a telescope, or even a little guitar. If you want to buy them something to make art with, things such as Play-Doh and paint sets are great for creating beautiful structures and paintings. Encouraging your child to enjoy crafts will keep them busy and provide both of y’all with some fun memories.

Read Together

One of my favorite fun ways to get your child off electronics is to read together. Just make sure y’all find something they’d be interested in. For example, if your child is a gamer at heart, they may love to read a story about being sucked into a video game or exploring a fantastical land filled with dragons and heroes. Try making reading a part of your daily routine for the numerous benefits offered. Who knows, your child may start choosing to pick up a book instead of the controller after finding a book they can’t put down!
