Do you enjoy traveling, but have a definite budget? Here are five excellent cities to visit for the budget-conscious traveler.

  1. Anchorage, Alaska – Alaska’s largest cosmopolitan city is chock full of museums, shops, nightlife venues, and a zoo. It is also world-famous for its Summertime celebration, City of Lights and Flowers. This is probably the best season to visit the city since the weather is always gorgeous at the time and all of the flowers are in full bloom. At the same time, it serves as the perfect and most popular home base for visiting hikers, skiers, and various other outdoor travelers. The best things to do while in Anchorage including hiking the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, visiting the Anchorage Museum, and checking out the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts.
  1. Gatlinburg, Tennessee – Gatlinburg boast three official entrances to Smoky Mountains National Park. But that is only a tiny fraction of its reason for huge popularity. It also has an abundance of hiking, biking, horseback riding historical exhibits, restaurants, and shops. All of this can be viewed and accessed via the Gatlinburg Space Needle and the Ober Gatlinburg Aerial Tramway. The most popular attractions for the kid crowd are definitely Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies and the Sweet Fanny Adams Theatre.

This is a city where some of the greatest personalities in U.S. history, such as Patrick Henry, George Washington, John Smith, Pocahontas, lived and walked. There are many styles of food represented in the city, even Colonial type food. There are also a number of 18th-century styled taverns throughout Williamsburg. Probably the most popular among tourists and locals alike is the King’s Arm and Shields Tavern.
  1. Portland, Oregon – Portland is today’s most popular tourist destination in the Northwest. It is particularly well known for its many world-class craft beers. There is also an abundance of outdoor activities such as hiking and biking in Forest Park; various water sports in Willamette and Columbia River; and exploring the nearby Mt. Hood. If these outdoors venues are your primary interest, the best time to visit Portland will be between June and August. Portland is also home of several very critically respected art galleries.
  1. Jacksonville, Florida – Jacksonville is the perfect vacation for travelers who value both an active nightlife and outdoor fun. Yet it is so cheap that beach bums on a tight budget come here from all over the world. Most of these tourists love the Seahorse Oceanfront Inn in Neptune Beach. If you’re looking for a place to have you next work conference, Jacksonville may be the perfect merriment of work and play. Rent an event center or an outdoor location on the beach. This is the case because it is both world-class accommodations that are affordable and it is located in the center of a wide number of sites and activities.
