Backgrounds are Important in Photos

Have you ever looked at a picture you have taken and just wish the background was different? I know that I have there have been many times that I have taken and retaken pictures only to trash the photo and start all over again, especially if it is a picture for a blog post. Then I read on another blog, how they use different things for backdrops and I am totally in awe. So all your blogger friends I have a little secret for you, your local home improvement stores and dollar stores are the perfect places for backdrop ideas. And I am currently obsessed with using wall panels. So here are some of the things I have used as backdrops for blog images.

  • 3D Wall Panels– seriously folks, these are the best. Not only can you add to the panel but they come in a ton of styles and colors. Remember the pictures from the chicken Salad post. The background was two wall panels being held up by wine bottles. No lie, folks, they are great for photo staging.

  • Contact Paper- I found this black and white contact paper at our local dollar store and attached to the back of a white foam board. And it works.

  • Foam board- I use this often. In fact, I used it so much that I have to replace it soon it is getting a little warped.

  • Wood, Wood, and more wood.- I often use my deck outside as photo backdrop. It has the perfect lighting, and the wood grain is just distressed enough that it works. I also use my wooden cutting board.

  • Blankets- You can use different color blankets to get the exact look you want.

So you see you don’t have to spend a ton of money to make your pictures stand out. Using items that you can find at your local home improvement and dollar stores will not only save you money but make your pictures get noticed.
