Whether an air conditioning unit is too expensive or wastes too much energy, you don’t have access to one. Unlike most homeowners, you can’t reach for an HVAC remote and instantly cool down, which is a problem.

Not only is the heat unbearably uncomfortable, but it can lead to health issues. Did you know that you can suffer from a stroke or exhaustion as a result of overheating? The rising temperatures are no joke, and you must be prepared for the changing seasons. Otherwise, your summer is likely to be hot and sticky and potentially dangerous.

If you aren’t sure how to maintain your body temperature, here are four hacks that don’t include an air conditioner.

Don’t Believe Fan Myths

There are lots of myths swirling around regarding fans, and most of them aren’t true. While the science does get complicated – they aren’t great in dry heat, for example – the experts say that using a fan is an excellent way to cool off this summer if your home isn’t equipped with air-con. It’s all to do with convection, but the main thing to remember is that a high level of airflow will regulate your body temp. With that in mind, you may want to build a fan fortress so that you are blasted from all angles!

Dip Your Feet In Cold Water

When your fan fortress doesn’t feel as if it’s working correctly, you can combine it with water. All you need to do is dip your feet in a bucket of cold H2O and let your skin conduct the chill vibes. You can splash your upper body and face with water and wait for it to evaporate off the surface of your body, too. Simply put, this is why sweating stops you from overheating when it’s hot. A fantastic tip is to put water into a bottle and spray yourself when everything gets a bit too much.

Eat Cooling Foods

Nobody wants to sit around the house waiting for the sun to set. Thankfully, you can do this by mixing most people’s two favorite activities: eating and doing nothing. The latter speaks for itself, yet the former may surprise you somewhat. If it does, the pertinent point to keep in mind is that cool foods and fluids will maintain healthy body temperature. And this doesn’t mean eating ice-cream all the time because chilled fruits are as effective. Here are some examples for those who need inspiration.

Build An Air Con Unit

The last straw is to build a DIY HVAC unit because you need something that packs a bigger punch, especially if you want to exercise regularly. For those who rent or don’t have permission to install a proper air conditioner, all you need is a fan, a container with holes in the sides, and toilet roll holders. Place the fan on top of the box so that there are no gaps and turn it on. Then, place the toilet roll holders in the holes and let the air seep out.

A DIY air-con unit may not cool a room, but it will keep you fresh if you sit next to it for a short while.
