Affordable Adventures - 6 Fun and Inexpensive Ways to Spend Your Summer

The summer is here again! The best part about summer is spending quality time with your family. The worst part about summer is paying an arm and a leg to do so. We wrote this guide to give you the information and ideas you need to have a great, affordable summer vacation.

  1. See Some Live Music

This may sound like a contradiction, but actually, there are tons of opportunities to see live music without spending money. Street performers, orchestras, and some bands frequently host free shows that are a great time for family or friends. Do some investigating, and you’ll be sure to find live music opportunities in your hometown free of charge.

  1. Go For a Road Trip

Going for a road trip is a great inexpensive way to have fun (if gas prices don’t go up anymore, at least). Head to the next town over, and don’t forget to pack your travel slippers! Going for a road trip is a perfect way to travel without going too far from home (and spending too much). You’d be surprised how much there is going on just a car ride away.

  1. Backyard Camping

You don’t need to travel to the Catskills to have a good camping trip; you and the family can camp just about anywhere. If you are looking for an inexpensive alternative to camping, then pitching a tent in the backyard may be perfect for you. Your kids will have just as much fun in the yard as they would at a campsite, and you’ll be spending much less money.

  1. Make a Backyard Waterpark

Another creative backyard alternative is the backyard waterpark. There’s nothing we want to do more than splash around a little bit in the summer. Instead of paying for a waterpark, bring the waterpark to your backyard. Set up some sprinklers, water guns, and a slip and slide; your kids will have as much fun as they would at a waterpark. This cheap alternative to the waterpark can save you a HUGE chunk of change and is a great time.

  1. Go to a Farmers Market

Going to a farmers market is a great time most of the year, but the summer is the best time to go. This is when produce is at its best and cheapest, letting you take advantage of low prices and great food. Farmer’s Markets also often have family-friendly activities or live music, making them a great affordable opportunity to eat, shop, and listen to music.

  1. Visit a Farm

If you want an activity similar to going to a farmers market but closer to the source, visiting a farm is another great way to get cheap produce and indulge in fun activities with the family. Farms often offer activities like berry picking, hayrides, or corn mazes. These activities are usually inexpensive and family-friendly, making farms another thing to put on your calendar this summer.

These activities are great opportunities to get out there and have a good time this summer. Remember that just because an activity is affordable doesn’t mean it’s not a great time. Lots of these ideas are as much fun as their more expensive counterparts. No excuses, this summer, get out there and have a great time!
