8 Easy Tips for a Great Dog Birthday Party
Finally, it’s your dog’s birthday! Your little one is getting bigger every single day, and today is the day he adds one more year to his beautiful life with you. As a proud dog owner, you naturally want to throw a birthday party for your best friend, but, more often than not, most people don’t know where to start. It’s not like you’re having a birthday party for a child, after all.
So, are you wondering what kind of birthday party would please your dog? Keep on reading and let us guide you through the wilderness that is a dog’s birthday party!
1. Choose a Fun Theme
Because every successful birthday party needs a theme, even your pet’s! Of course, your four-pawed best friend will not have much of a saying about it, so make sure to pick something fun. You can dress your dog and his animal friends in costumes, such as a superhero or police costumes (I mean, just look at this cutie, and tell me you don’t want your dog to look the same for his birthday!). And, of course, don’t forget the party hats!
2. Bake a cake
A dog cake, obviously, since dogs cannot and should not eat things such as ice cream or chocolate (it’s poisonous for them). Instead, either bake a cake that your dog can eat (following this recipe), or, just use his favorite wet food and decorate it with some kibble and birthday candles.
3. Invite his best animal friends and their humans
What’s a birthday party without friends to attend it? If the weather is nice, and you have a backyard or a garden with enough space, throw the party outside, and let the pets enjoy themselves in some sun. If you have a kiddy pool, that would be even better, since it will help the dogs cool down during a hot day. And, of course, always have bowls of water available, since your dog and his friends need to stay hydrated at all time!
4. Get your dog a present
No birthday party is complete without a present, that’s for sure. Buy him a toy (or 6 of them, love has no boundaries when it comes to showering your best friend with presents). Make sure the gifts you buy are dog-friendly and safe.
5. Try a photoshoot
Because it’s your dog’s birthday and he deserves to have pictures of him taken! It doesn’t matter if your dog is a giant Great Dane or a Pitbull Lab Mix, he will definitely look great in pictures, wearing his birthday party hat and enjoying his gifts. Take some pictures of him with his dog friends, and some pictures of the two of you together, because, in the end, he’s your forever companion.
6. Play games
A birthday party has to be fun, and what’s more fun than games? If you don’t know what kind of game your dog would enjoy, we have a couple of ideas for you. You can rent agility equipment which will teach your dog a few tricks. He’ll also enjoy jumping around with his friends, which will make their bond stronger. Another game idea would be a canine version of a treasure hunt. Hide treats all around the place where you’re holding the party, and let the dogs find them. This is a great way for dogs to strengthen their sense of smell and have great treats!
7. Don’t forget to provide snacks
Not only to your human guests, but also to their pets. Dogs are energetic animals that burn a lot of calories while playing and jumping around, so be sure to have snacks prepared for them. If it’s a hot day, slices of cucumber can be the perfect treat for your four-pawed friends. But, make sure to ask the people attending before about their dogs’ preferences, since some pooches might have allergies or sensitive stomachs. Coordinate with everyone, and you’ll be sure to have a great birthday party for your best friend!
8. Finally, have a lot of fun
In the end, a birthday party is about celebrating, so make sure to do so. Have a lot of fun, take a lot of pictures of your dog, and make sure everyone is happy! Now, you know what you need to do, so, what are you waiting for?
