5 Ways to Save More Money at Home

5 Ways to Save More Money at Home from North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Adventures of Frugal Mom

If it feels like your cash pocket is always empty, you’re probably interested in ways to save money. Working harder might not be the answer to your financial worries. Working smarter at home might be the solution you need.  There are quite a few ways you can save your cash around the house, so here are our five favorite ways to save more money at home.

Keep Your Heat

Live in a colder area? You run the heat for several months each winter. While you’re probably not wasting much money on heating bills if you live in sunny Florida, roughly half of Americans run their heat for at least four months every year. Some must use heat for about six months. That’s a great deal of energy to use and a rather large energy bill that accumulates. Keep your heat inside your house by sealing your windows and having foam insulation installed in your attic.

Cook Meals from Scratch

Buying pre-made frozen dinners can really add up in cost. The more mouths you have to feed, the more money you spend on food each month. You might be spending on monthly groceries what most people spend on rent, which is a lot! To save cash around the house, start cooking meals from scratch. It’s easier than ever with a crock or instant pot, and scheduling a day for freezer meals can keep your every day cooking at a minimum.

Stick to that Budget

You may have already made a budget at some point. If you haven’t, or if you’re not good at sticking to it, you’ll find that life is a lot less stressful when you live within your means. If you’re in debt, you may want to talk to a firm that offers strong>accounting and auditing services. They’ll be able to assess your debt with you. Once you know the situation you’re really in, you can start making changes–and a game plan–for eradicating your debt.

Buy Less

Some people get into the habit of buying things they don’t need. With a good water filter at home, who needs bottled water? Do you buy a soda every month? We really shouldn’t be drinking it, anyway. If your house is filled with extra expenses, things you could easily go without, start cutting back. Drink more water, and make your snacks yourself, instead of buying extra stuff.

Clean Differently

You might spend quite a bit of money on cleaning products. While some homemade cleaning products aren’t as effective, there are several ways you could clean for less. Hang your laundry out to dry, instead of running the dryer. You also don’t need bottles of home fragrances. You can eliminate odor in carpets with baking soda. Some home-grown lavender and freshly-brewed coffee cover a multitude of smells, as well.

When it comes to saving money at home, it’s much easier than you might think. Of course, you’ll have to make some small life changes, but it will be worth it. If your current routine isn’t saving you money, make some changes! The next time you look at your bank account, you’ll be so glad you did.
